How do you feel about house husbands or stay at home dads?

A house husband is a man who stays at home regardless of having children or not and a stay a home father is of course just a man who stays home to watch the children. House husbands has been slowly becoming more popular over recent years although I wouldn’t say it’s common.

Personally I don’t find it attractive in a man. I’m more traditional and believe men should provide and lead. I have yet to see a successful house husband relationship where the woman was content and the man was pulling his weight. I don’t judge couples who choose to live that way but, I wanted to know other people’s opinions as it becomes a more popular thing.

What’s your opinion on house husbands? Men, would you want to be one? Women, could you be in a relationship with a man who stayed at home? Should men only stay home if there are children are involved?

Well, a man who doesn't pull down a wage to support his family is a concern. If he's already wealthy and pampers his partner taking her out a lot, thats fine, but if he just sits about the house, watching TV (showing my age) or playing games online then that's not very attractive. That all said, noone should choose a partner based on such shallow criteria. Aka it doesn't matter, what matters is does the woman feel (and is) loved, does she feel her partner is and seeks to fulfil her and seek to keep himself as someone she's proud of. That's what matters and a "house husband" can do that just as well as a "James Bond" figure for the right woman.

On the whole, I feel I am less "warm" towards lazy people than hard working people, but also sympathetic that not everyone is a "James Bond" and some people are just "James Halliday"'s. Ultimately it doesn't matter, but I feel people who don't have children but seek to just sit at home (rather than seek to work) are people I find less worthy.

I tend to be pragmatic, a house costs circa £400,000 and a deposit £50,000 to £80,000. If either not working means you are unable to afford a decent level of comfort, a house in a decent area, then you accept it and have zero right to comment when other couples where both work live in a decent house in a decent area. People should live to their potentials and not some ideals that prevent them living a decent life.

Like with any parent, I don't think there needs to be a house spouse unless there's kids. I also don't think there's a good reason to be a house parent either, unless there's no other choice for childcare (at which point why'd you have kids).

My mother was a SAHM and claimed it was because of me. As a baby? Sure. But even once I went back to school, went to university, had a career, had my own place - she still claimed to need to be a SAHM.

My father will never retire because she spends him outta house and home.

And I lost all respect because she was nothing but a leech on my family.

in my opinion, SAHP are not very good role models for kids.

I think they are great. One parent should be home with the kids. Only thing I don't like is that the dad's obviously cannot breastfeed their babies so it's better for moms to be stay at home parents at least for that reason. I've also known a few stay at home dad's whose houses were always a crazy mess. a lot of them cannot clean and watch the kids. They are bad at multitasking 😂

The same as I feel about stay at home moms. Some of them are amazing who work just as hard as she does but doing the house and kids. She doesn’t lift a finger around the house. On the other hand. If he’s playing video games and smoking pot doing absolutely nothing. Then I genuinely feel bad for those women. The same as I feel bad for men who marry women who are worthless. They plop babies out but nothing else. The babysitter sometkmes even does most the childcare if not the husband and chores.

Men and women are not designed to be the same. If you meet any man who his a
"house husband", he is likely just a lazy person using his wife. Because the truth is, men are designed differently than women. Men are hunters, women are not. Men are designed to be proactive, do things , accomplish, pursue. Women are designed to be nesters. Even in the mating process, take a look at how men are much moer likely to chase, pursue, take initiatve than women.

However, if the whole world pushes for an environment where men and women can do whatever they want and be considered "normal", then it should be accepted that men can also do "stay at home" like some women do.

i think both parents need a job. i don't care who i piss off on this opinion. it is irresponsible to only rely on one person for income. i get it. it's expensive for childcare. but that is how the world is now.

and no i don't think stay at home dads are attractive at all.
