Would an orthodox Christian family accept a Hindu as their daughter in law? Also approx how much time would it take to convince them?

Deep down even I'm skeptical about the acceptance part.

NGL it's hard to explain how much we mean to each other. And yes we got together knowing the cultural differences. And we keep telling ourselves that incase things don't work out well but at least now we know being in love really is.

At the same time we know it's gonna be really hard if things didn't work out. Like really hard.

I personally don't understand the (Indian) Christian family perspective on this topic. And his family is pretty religious. So I dunno.

most ''Westerners'' don't take Hinduism for serious - and see it as a primitive cult.

Which it is, also from my own perspective.

If you manage to convince as a person, and if (as 'they' are 'pious' in some way) you avoid confrontation of ''views'' - then you have a chance to be tolerated.

If you are taken for serious is one other question.

There will be no problem. Of course, Orthodox Christians will accept a Hindu person. Orthodox Christians are not like Muslims, they will not separate you, do not cause trouble for yourself, the most important thing is that you love each other very much, you will not be separated, just fight, I don't think there will be discrimination anyway.

Having a Hindu daughter-in-law probably wouldn't be an issue for most Christians because Christians have a belief in sharing the spouses' spiritual values. That said, the religious tensions in India have been horribly bloody and full of pain.

I would hope for the best, of course, but I am not optimistic that the relationship will have long term stability.

It really depends on the family, and how strict they are about their religion.

I know a Southern Baptist couple, for example, who prevented their daughter from dating a Catholic guy.

It should be fine. Most Indian Christians I know are fine with their children marrying a Hindu if they're a good match. Sure it may take a little convincing, but it'll be much easier than if it was a Muslim.
