I stopped with this ''Auntie'' bullshit when I was ca. 12 years old.

I didn't see the point.

But as you mention it... I could feel tempted to address certain unpleasant persons of my surrounding as ''Auntie'' again; or request to be addressed as 'Uncle Andreas' :D

kids in my family or close to us call me by my name, it cuts off the distance significantly... other kids I know call me "Auntie", I as hate be called with the local polite form... (Frau M...)

and it's funny stuff... my older kids are adults for dome time already, the youngest will be 18 in the spring next year... most of their friends are adults too... and all of them call me "Auntie" and some with such affection that I have tears in my eyes :D

We never used that term in my family. My mom and dads sisters and their brother's spouses were called Aunt, followed by their nick name, like Aunt Peggy, Aunt Sally, etc.
We never referred to other woman as Aunt or Aunty.
