Why doesn't she get it?

When my wife puts dishes in the kitchen sink to soak, she almost always covers the drain, so there's no way the water can go down. I've asked her many times not to do that, explaining that when she blocks the drain, the water from someone washing their hands or rinsing another dish just piles up in the sink. I often move the dishes out of the way to clear the drain.

Why doesn't she get it?

Any ideas on how to get her to change this habit?

Get her in the habit of cleaning her dishes right there and then so no dishes end up in the sink. Just rinse them off and put them in the dishwasher (if you have one) or just wash them by hand if you don't have one. It's what we do with our kids and it works well.
