Do men change after they become parents?

My friend got me into thinking about this, before they had a baby he told her that it couldn't be that hard, that three months of parent leave are not going to be enaugh for him, that he is going to help out a lot. Now she can't leave the kid with him alone for more than an hour because he apparently can't do it and doesn't know how to do most stuff. Are most of the men like this? Also is it really that hard to have a kid?

The kid is not a baby anymore it's a toddler now and it's still going like this.
