My parents were pretty hardcore when I was growing up. I had to have the best diet, attend the best schools, and be the most perfect kid at church. I also had to go into engineering, couldn’t explore any other major.
By the time I graduated high school at 17, I was only 5’8” and 120 lbs. I feel like the way they raised me stunted my growth, according to growth calculators I should be like 6’3”. I struggled in college, weighed about 130 lbs when I finished, and I graduated with a 2.8 GPA. After college, I moved over 1,000 miles away to get away from the pressure and my life changed drastically. I was able to focus when I did my masters and graduated with a 3.6 GPA. I now weigh 171 lbs and am more muscular. I can actually go on dates with women I like. The doctors always tell me how healthy I am, when they used to make fun of me for being skinny and sent me to nutritionists as a kid.
It’s sad because people feel like I am strange for not wanting to live close to my family. But my life is so much better without them. I feel like I can breathe. Anyone else feel the same?
