Should you ask a girl to hang out with her boyfriend?

I'm friends with this girl and her boyfriend, and I want to hang out with him but she's mentioned to me that he asks to hang out with female friends, personally I think that a bit weird and shows insecurity. I've never had any feelings for him. So should I ask her first or should I just ask him?
