Is it odd that my mom has a brother (my uncle) that is only a few years older than me, how common is that?

I went to middle school with a boy and a girl that were uncle and niece. They were only two years apart. That's the only experience I've had with that. I remember his mom came to school once and we all thought it was his grandmother!

Yea from what my mother and grandmother told me, my grandmother (My moms mother) got pregnant with my uncle (My moms younger brother). When my mother and her sister (my aunt) were entering into their 20’s and my aunt had a daughter already so he also has a niece younger than him.

It was just odd growing up because not many people had a similar experience lol the. Of course the overthinking side of me is like what if that isn’t the truth (family secrets kind of thing) but the more I think about it makes sense. My grandmother just had a kid at a odd age lol.

OMG! That's happened. I was watching a show about a girl's "sister" being murdered. It turned out, it was actually her mother! The family lied all those years, and told her that her GRANDMOTHER was her mother. You had cause to question it lol

Yea that’s exactly what I had thought on and off for years. That my “uncle” is actually my brother. Like what if my mom had a kid before me, didn’t want it and let my grandmother raise him lol but then when I think about how my uncle knows who his dad is and is aware of his brothers on his dads side, the blurred lines are not so blurry lol.

Also me and uncle look alike but my uncle also looks like my mom (who I also look like) and that is his sitter not to mention that his dad and my my moms dad are cousins. So my grandmother slept with cousins, unknowingly and that’s where the resemblance comes in at. So I’m slowly making sense of it rather than thinking the worse lol.

It was pretty common in the old days before things like birth control, condoms, and abortion were used. My dad was born when my grandma was 40. His older sisters were 14 and 18 when he was born. My dad said "I was an accident". His dad was stoked because he always wanted a son. His mom unfortunately saw him as a burden.
