I haven't had a real friend in as long as I can recall. It's probably been 20 years easily. I fell out with my best friend at the time & nothing has ever been the same since.

I think its harder to make close friends like we did when we were younger, but making friends itself isn't so bad even at our age. Personally, I'm a shut in who is agoraphobic and I still find ways to make friends on social media and dating apps. Now I game with some of them. Not the close bond I had with my high school friends, but still friends nonetheless.
You have to be willing to be extroverted, meet people and get them to like you. Help people or give something to people for nothing in return except their gratitude, but of course make sure the situation isn't weird when you do it.
An example.. I helped a neighbor into his apartment after he got too drunk and fell. He bled a bit but I helped him up the stairs into his apartment.
