When you apologize, how do you do it?

What do you usually say, other than "sorry"

When I genuinely mean if I say something like "I was out of line and I fucked up and you were right to be mad" and then I try to do better. I'll probably also point out what I did wrong and realize what my F up actually was because that way it's not just a blanket apology it shows you took a moment to stop and reflect on your actions. Then focus on trying to keep that from happening again.

i do say sorry with my hands in prayer and bow without making eye contact for shame. i do this 3 times and leave quickly

Know who you're apologizing to. With my sister we never really say "sorry" we just kind pick up like we were never screaming at each other. Same with my mother. With one friend I usually give her food as a peace offering. With my partner I write him a note. Other people require hugs.

For me personally an admittance of error or understanding is all it takes.

Depends on the person as well as the nature of the thing you’re apologizing for. Sometimes a personal apology is needed and sometimes a more public apology is required to right the wrong (s).

I've finally learned the correct way after decades. Authentic Contrition is a rare thing and I've learned forgiveness is never for the transgressor but granting grace to yourself. Wish I learned that sooner... 😢🥺😭
