Do you find it irresponsible when people bring children to the world, knowing they can't afford them a good life?

If they're always saying ''I'm sorry but we can't afford your graduation dress'' and they're always poor isn't that being irresponsible? Then some of those children grow up miserable having to comform to the simple life of just having the same, simple meals and the bare minimum.

While that's better than the actually starving people out there in the world, are those parents irresponsible for bringing children into the world if they're always going to be broke and will never be able to give them a better life or even an education?

I think generally I agree with this , but with the caveat that some attention needs paid to the use of “GOOD”.

For sure a child’s basic needs should always be taken care of the massive majority of parents WANT at least that ! Nutritious food in their stomachs and clothes on their back with a roof over their head etc. people generally don't bring a child or children into this world to make their lives miserable or to provide only a “basic” life through choice !

However , families can easily fall into hard times , parents becoming unwell or worse , accidents at work , the economy etc etc. so what should this mean for their kids? .. taken in by the state? .. forced upon extended family?

Take it a step further , do you want to tell people they can't have kids because they don't earn enough? .. or maybe they don't have enough sq footage in their house?

It’s easy to sit and judge isn’t it? .. but I was brought up in poverty , sharing clothes , living in poor conditions with only one warm room in winter sometimes going without meals for the sake of a siblings. But I was loved , for the most part anyway.

I went without a lot , I was bullied for not having labeled or even new clothes , shamed for it. I didn’t have games consoles or a mobile phone.. but I had LOVE

Some perspective:

When a sea turtle lays eggs, it abandons them, and most get eaten by birds or fish.
Sea lice burst out of their mother upon being born, killing her in the process.
Elephants and lions keep females in the family group for life, while kicking out most of the males.
Many bird parents toss their babies out of the nest.
Many arthropods and reptiles eat their young.

In nature, life is harsh for most organisms. Death is the rule, survival the exception.

If good parenting was required to breed, we would have never even existed as a species.

You can prepare your entire life for kids, only to lose it all after having them.
People cannot agree on how much money or time should go into raising a child.
The more money you have, the more advantages the child will have.
There isn't really a specific number though thats "ideal", since each child's needs, wants, goals, capabilities, etc. are different.
Generally speaking, most people don't make enough money to take care of just themselves, so what you are really suggesting, is only the wealthy should breed, which would drastically shrink the workforce to almost nothing, causing the wealthy to become poor, which under your idealogy, means humanity should become exinct.

I'm very thankful my Mexican mother chose to have me despite being a single mom. I'm appreciative of her guerrera (warrior) spirit. Despite life throwing obstacles her way, she showed me our situation could be overcome, it might just take a little while. When she couldn't find a job, (and believe, she'd take any job, she wasn't picky like some in my generation are) she'd make tamales and she'd ask me to help her. Her resilience has spilled over me, her positivity has motivated me through life despite our struggles. How unfortunate to be coddled and spoiled all the time. What kind of person would that be? Entitled, selfish, pessimistic, weak and ungrateful. Definitely not who I want to be.

Yeah, I see no issue with bringing kids into the world if you’re “poor” but can still provide essential needs like food, water, shelter, clothing, education and medical care. But you shouldn’t be having kids if you’re actually broke and can barely afford your own necessities let alone a child’s.

Your comments are very condescending actually , you are saying if you don't have money you have no right to reproduce , the Australian prime minister grew up in housing commission.

Your example of her Prom dress? Far worse things than that are going to happen in your life. The USA system is so skewed to the wealthy that it bring up thoughts like this , including the utterly worlds worst in uniform healthcare , and an education system that is also skewed.

These are the things that need to be worked on , not desexing poor people like Dogs.

Plenty of parents who can't even take care of themselves financially, have kids then complain that their life is too difficult and then demand that they are entitled to handouts.

its the poor uneducated, dumb ones who have the most kids.

the richer and smarter people are, the less kids they have

Yes I always thought it was stupid to have kids if you are poor. I would never have kids with a man who couldn't provide or if I couldn't take care of myself first. I always want my kids to have a better and easier life than I had.

Yeah of course. I would go to the extreme tbh and make it illegal for anyone to have a child unless they meet a certain stable income.

Reality is we can't do that though cause a lot of idiots would freak out saying its against our rights and dictatorship. Though it would save countless of people including kids having to live in bad conditions.

They can't see it's both the moral and logical choice because blinded by their own sense of freedom emotions.

It is very irresponsible. I was born into poverty and my childhood was hard financially. I was told I wasn’t going to graduate because my mother was so far behind on lunch bills. But there’s a flip side to it aswell, I feel the way I was raised taught me the value of a dollar at a young age and that if you want nice things in life you have to work hard. Now I’m further ahead in my career than a lot of my peers and I make good money for my age. But I would be lying if I said I didn’t envy the other kids with rich or middle class parents.

Devil's advocacy: Education is mostly free of charge here, I've never seen a prom dress anywhere except in US movies. A simple life gives kids a chance to see the world for what it is instead of floating around in a disconnected bubble. Also, what matters the most for the future adults that kids are is to have psychologically literate and emotionally stable parents.

Not really because finances are never set in stone. One day you could have a great job and "afford" those kids but then the next day lose that job. Most parents who love their kids always find a way to support them even if that means just the bare minimum. Which personally I don't see a issue with being raised that way.

It is normal behavior to reproduce, money or no money. And a species can only survive if there are enough normal individuals to make sure enough babies are created to keep the species alive. It is the number one most important job of every species.
