Would it be wrong to suggest my mom puts her dog to sleep?

My mom has a 13 year old pit bull. He's lost a lot of muscle mass, and it looks like he's starving, but he's not. He pisses and shits when he doesn't even seem to realize it. Sometimes he just walks while doing his business. He has arthritis. My mom tried pills prescribed from the vet. She used those for a couple years but it didn't seem to be helping much, because he still limps up the stairs. I don't live at my moms anymore so I don't know if he still does, but several months ago, she started taking Him to the vet monthly to get injections for his arthritis. My mom says it's helping, but he stays at my place while my moms at work, because she doesn't want to leave him alone all day, and he walks around and whines like 90% of the day, and he's VERY Clingy. He i also have to pick him up on my bed, because he can't jump up himself. He just stands there and whines loudly. I don't know if this is all because of his arthritis, or cognitive decline. I don't know, I feel like he's just so uncomfortable, and my moms trying a lot. I don't know if I should suggest she has him euthanized? He just seems miserable.

Ah man, that's a really tough situation with your mom's dog. I can see why you're conflicted about it. On one hand, you can clearly see the dog is suffering and not having a great quality of life. But at the same time, it's your mom's dog and you don't want to overstep or make her feel bad.

I think the best thing to do is have an open and honest chat with your mom about your concerns. Don't be confrontational or tell her what to do, but just express how you see the dog struggling and that you're worried he's in a lot of pain. See if she's open to getting the vet's full assessment on the situation.

Ultimately, it has to be your mom's call since she's the owner. But you can offer to help research more humane euthanasia options so she feels good about it if that's the decision. Just make sure she knows you're coming from a place of caring for the dog's wellbeing, not trying to tell her what to do.

It's a really tough call, I get it. But just be there to support your mom through it. Losing a pet is always hard, so she's gonna need that empathy. Hopefully you two can figure out the best thing for the dog. Hang in there, man.

If he is suffering a lot, that is the best thing to do, but if he is crying just out of need, take care of him.
