Is it bad that I'm thinking of talking to my mom about putting her dog to sleep?

I live with my mom. She has a 12 year old pit bull. He has pretty bad arthritis. He's on medication. We've tried multiple medications, but it doesn't seem to help all that much. He's always limping. He can't get up on my moms bed anymore. He just stands there and whines until I pick him up. I don't know, my mom says that she doesn't want him to suffer, but he is. I was thinking of mentioning putting him to sleep, but I don't know if it would be too soon or what.

no reason to put a dog to sleep just because of arthritis, which is manageable. your vet needs to find better options.
