What’s the best thing to say to a bereaved person?

Everyone has experienced bereavement however nobody is the same in how it affects them. How do you express sympathy for someone and also show them due sensitivity during such a difficult time?

Losing someone makes being able to talk to the ones you still have mean everything.

I say sorry for your loss. I then try to take on any small burdens for them. Day to day stuff that needs done.

Had it happen a couple times with a friend and then family. Depends on what happened and who it was in relation to me.
