Should I tell my friend not to shoot rats with a bb gun?

My friend sent me a photo of a rat caught in a trap in a tree at his house. At least that's what it looked like. Then he was like "time to get my bb gun they like to go on the BBQ". Im pretty sure he was serious because when we were younger, he shot and killed a rat. Im worried because I know its inhumane to shoot a rat with a bb gun, because it doesn't have enough power. Im afraid that If I tell him not to, the he'd get mad at me, so id rather keep my mouth shut, but I'd feel kinda bad. I dont even know what to say.

@hotzone417 We, in Huntington Beach, have a real problem with Pocket Gophers that will completely destroy your yard if you do nothing to stop them.

He or anybody can buy efficient 'Rat Traps".

I do NOT want to kill anything if it can be avoided, by simply trying to discourage them from inhabiting where I live. That said, with the pocket Gophers, I DID TRY EVERYTHING to run them out of my yard, and that failing, I resorted to a trap that is in most cases, instantly lethal, but in one instance it only caught the animal by a leg and I had to kill him by striking it with a blunt object.

I DID NOT LIKE DOING THAT EVEN WITH A RODENT BUT I DID NOT HAVE AN EFFICIENT FIREARM AT THE MOMENT.

KILLING ANYTHING IS NOT PLEASANT AND I ABHOR DOING THAT, BUT FOR PETE'S SAKE IF YOU HAVE TO DO THAT, USE SOME KIND OF 'HUMANE' WAY OF DOING IT.

Tell him to get a 22 caliber pneumatic pellet rifle. Much more effective than a BB but still pretty cheap. And Quiet. Fine for squirrels, chipmunks, rats, rabbits, even woodchucks. Will also surprise the crap out of a deer munching on your flower beds or a coyote scoping out neighborhood pets. Aim for the balls or hind quarters on larger animals and watch em scoot.

I would, but he lives in city limits, and that would be even more dangerous than a bb gun.

If it's already in a trap why does he need a gun? Just snap it's neck or whack the head with a short stick. If he's got a rat problem just ask around if anyone has a terrier that likes ratting
