I think this is an individual choice. However, in family life, typically women get all their bills paid. This is probably a comfort to a lot of them, kind of like children.

Independent is better regardless of gender but humans need to get married and start families though it comes with a burden unlike if you're by yourself you don't have to worry about other people and the responsibilities that come with it.
