Is this what Thanksgiving DINNER should look like?

This picture shows a family having Thanksgiving Dinner at home several, taken years ago. Mom and Dad at opposite heads of the table, son on one side of the table, daughters on the other side, everyone formally dressed for dinner. Mom is the chef, having spent hours in the kitchen, and now it's Dad's job to carve the turkey.

FYI... My family looked a lot like this at Thanksgiving when I was growing up. We had a china cabinet that looked a lot like the one in the picture. No, this picture is not me and my family.

I’m very fond of the extended family gatherings my family had for Thanksgiving in my youth. Also for Easter & Christmas, sometimes. There was always a kids’ table. Parents and big kids wrangled the rug rats and prepared their plates for them. Then the adults and big kids sat down at the main dining table, someone said grace and we ate like we hadn’t eaten in weeks. Ell oh ell! We were a little dressed up, but nothing fancy or formal. At the end, everyone divvied up the leftovers, guests got first dibs. A lot of dishes were loaned out indefinitely; so as to cut down on dishes in the host house. Which i appreciated because the cook doesn’t clean and our big ol’ farmhouse was one of few big enough to accommodate large family gatherings. It pained me to see my favorite leftovers leave the house knowing that i was still gonna be doing dishes for hours. Ell oh ell!

No, Thanksgiving should look like a bunch of friends and family getting together in a relaxed atmosphere and comfy clothes to enjoy a nice meal and conversation after a football game outside and before watching the NFL game on TV.

The women (mom, grandmother and aunts) would be in charge of dinner in the kitchen.
Table cloth, nice table setting, good China and silverware, and cloth napkins.
Everyone dressed nicely, but no men wore suits and freakin' ties. I'm thankful that I wasn't raised by people like that.

There is no ideal Thanksgiving. Just gather with people you want to be around and are thankful to have in your life. Eat Chinese, Pizza, Mediterranean, whatever.

Having there be an ideal Thanksgiving kind of going against the meaning of Thanksgiving in my opinion.

The third town i ever lived in, and my first living on my own, there was a “Pancake House”. Great little greasy spoon diner that specialized in breakfast. One year they had a fall special where they used pumpkin roll to make french toast. It was amazing! It was addictive it was so good! I joked that they made it with crack. I was there almost every weekend until the special ended. I don’t really even like pumpkin rolls that much. The flavor and texture was altered just enough that it hit the spot for me and i was instantly hooked.
I recommend it to anyone who luvs pumpkin rolls.

No. It's missing aunt's, uncle's, and cousins lol. But yes. It is nice to remember those times. Mine looked like that too but more 80s regarding apparel and hair styles lol
