If you were a paid caregiver for an elderly person and you stole things from them and they called you on it, would you lie and say it wasn't you?

She was alone in my apartment for 5 hours the other day and now things are missing. No one else is in my apartment!!
I went through this with my last caregiver and she stole Everything from me and still said that she didn't do it.
So now I'm mad at her for stealing AND lying about it.
I might not be young anymore but I know every knick and cranny of my apartment and what's where and I know when my things have been stolen!! But they lie about it!!
What am I supposed to do? 😔

This is a common problem. My sister in law used to hire a maid to clean up the house and she used to steal stuff all the time. One time when they were on vacation their alarm system was set off. The cops came and arrested two guys that were in the house. One of them was the boyfriend of the maid.

Get yourself a safe and keep your valuables locked up. or cancel the service. If you want you could call the agency and complain but it probably will not go anywhere without proof.

I remember when this happened to you before. It really is a shame that you cannot trust anyone but that is the way it is.

The other one stole almost everything of mine on moving day. About $1800-$2000 worth of stuff

This one probably would have done the same but usually I am home. I felt like I couldn't even use the bathroom and something else would be gone. But she took some of my medicine that I really need and I can't replace them.
She also broke something that wasn't small and when I asked her about it she said she didn't break it. But no one else had been in my apartment except for her and myself. If I had broken it, I would have felt bad but just ordered another one.
I cannot stand when someone stands right in front of me and lies to my face and then starts a fight with me about it. I told her to leave and don't come back until she replaced it. She bought me another one so, to me she lied again.
She texted me and told me that she was going to tell things to the State Agency social worker and what she was going to say to her - All lies!
I don't get it. Even when I am totally nice to them they still screw me over.
You're right - it is a common problem. Oh... what to do?

Firstly I wouldn't steal to begin with, but if I somehow happen to steal, I'd be truthful upfront. Lying only makes things worse.

Sorry that this has happened to you. If you get another caregiver I would suggest putting a big sign in your home about NOT STEALING YOUR BELONGINGS!!! You need to show that you are serious and you will install cameras too.🙏

She just texted me and quit. She told me all of the lies she is going to tell the agency about me.
I guess a person gets highly defensive when they get caught stealing from me.

If you hire a new caregiver make sure that you get a background check done on them

I did that before on my former caregiver but in my State you have to file online and I did that but they didn't follow up. They wanted me to write ✍🏻 some more things and attach it to the online report. Well I don't know how to do that so she got away with it.
Just now she wanted to keep arguing with me telling me that she would never do that to me. I told her she sounded like my other caregiver who would lie about it when I would ask her where my things were.
Now she just texted me and said she resigned. Good! Because I told her to leave me alone.
