Would you be angry with your mother for this?

She's always been a leech and user, princess mentality at a senior age. Never supported me and always put me down. I have a special needs child she never helps me with and complains when she does. Never babysits and if she do, complains.

I moved to another state to start over. I went into a shelter with my kid. They then helped me find housing and paying my rent for 1 year. My mom acts like when I visit her I'm supposed to splurge money or owe her something and she's been nothing but a horrible mother, for years..

The money I'm supposed to save because once the year is up I'm responsible for $1,100 rent and other bills including food as I do not get food stamps. I'm wondering if it's ok for me to be mad at her because of this? Why does she see this as something in it for her? When it's for me and my child to survive while the government is helping her greedy leech ass?

Sounds to me as if she has had that mentality long before you and justify it all the way that other people, may it have been your dad or who ever should care fir her financially. You are like the last in line to get this attitude. She has had years to change this abour herself, but chose not to as it is convinuent to her and her ego. I would tell her she is an adult and in the situation I am in I can not help support her financialy and I will not risk having her drag my child and myself down because we too are in a vulnerable situation and if she does not think of her grandchild it does not mean me as a mom, this childs protector, has to do the same. I would say for the sake of my child no, big fat no, do not mix up our finanser. I would keep her at bad or cut off. If you see no enough change in her attitude, and I recken you will not, you need to look at her for who she is, what she has always been and most likely will continue to be. Don't waste more energy on that. She must have thick walls for what ever her reasons and you can not meet her half way, so it is not a healthy good relationship for you nor your child. Some are blessed into being born into wonderful families and some don't and the don'ts can not permit themselves go under because of it. I hope everything works out for you

Your mum is that classic narcissistic parent who sees their children as property/retirement plan. You cannot change people like this but to go no contact. It will be hard assuming that you have some sort of attachment towards her. She resents you for leaving, but at the same time will continue to demean you in all possible ways even if you stay, to keep you dependent on her. My mother is worse, the four of us suffered terribly growing up. Two of us finally go no contact, the other two siblings ended up sticking with her, which is sad because they have been so brainwashed to the point where they are afraid to live without her.

She never wanted custody and didn't want to deal with my child. After my child was diagnosed and gets SSI now my mom's wants to take custody if I'm open to it. Such a money hungry bitch smh.

They will only offer to take something if it benefits them but won’t bother to fix anything if it is not directly affecting their lives.

I’m not sure there is any point being mad at her or rather holding on to any ill feelings towards her , I understand your position though as I’ve been through that with a father. Had I stayed in contact with him I’d likely be in prison serving life so I know a lot about holding on to hurt and resentment.


By your account / description she doesn’t sound like she adds and value to your child’s life of yours nor does she offer any support emotionally , financially or physically in any meaningful way.


Extricate her from your life , cut her out completely and move on with your head held high.

What work does she do in your life? It took me 46 years of ignoring me, belittling me and attacking me to sever her from my life permanently... it would have been much earlier but I was pretending so I could sustain a relationship with my father (until he died in the past year or so). Best thing I have ever done.

I have toxic things in my past. My mother is one slice of them. I have scooped them all up in a big garbage bag labelled: Things That Are Not My Future.

You know, it’s ok to separate yourself from toxic people, even when they’re family. It doesn’t mean you don’t have love for them, it also doesn’t mean that you can’t reconcile at some point in the future. It’s just so important to protect your peace, and to act in your best interest, because that interest is also your son’s.


Your mom most likely wouldn’t be happy about that but you don’t need her agreement or approval. I’d either just cut her off for now or heavily limit not only my contact with her, but the conversations we have. Going forward I’d set boundaries, no more talking about finances or any topics you know will lead to her asking for money. No more asking her to babysit my son; I’d find another source of childcare, because he doesn’t need to be where he’s not wanted, aka with your mom. It sounds a change is overdue.

Yes, it's perfectly fine! Just like how I'm pissed at my greedy ex-sisters for kicking me out of my own house 6 years ago and my aunt for taking out a mortgage on the house to give more money to the scammers she was involved with and then I got stuck paying it off because she died!! AND the bank for not taking my money for that when I had it 5 years ago and wanting all of it, now, when I DON'T have it!!
