Can he take the child away from her?

So I’m asking for a friend. Long story short; my friend had a kid with her coworker. He moved in her place, he got cancer and hasn’t worked in over a year. She’s been paying all the bills, rent, taking care of him and the two kids. Recently, her job went outta business and she hasn’t worked for 2 months. For the guy, he just started working about 4 months ago and is better from cancer. But he continues to use her credit cards, her money, go out with his friends, gets drunk, yells at her a lot when the kids are around, doesn’t help out his kid, takes her car without her knowing from time to time. He hasn’t paid nothing at all until last month; only helped pay half rent and that’s it. Now, he’s threatening to take custody of their kid. What are the chances he may get custody or not? I’m tryna help her out best I can. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

If this a genuine concern or possibility for her then she should get an opinion from a professional. I get that she’s got no job right now but pro bono consultations do exist, then at least she could get a real idea of what she’d be up against. All we can do here is throw ideas at you and none of them help with her situation.

She has lawyer. I’m just tryna get information on what the possible outcomes are. She’s stubborn and trying to do everything on her own but her father is keeping me updated

the chances of getting custody are quite low. he would have to proof that her custody is actually detrimental to the development of the kid to take her custody away. the financial shit doesn't have anything to do with custody. that will just regulated with fines.

Thank you. He doesn’t have stable family supporting him either. Her father had to give his mom a discount for an apartment cause she couldn’t afford the actual price for rent.
