10 Years Later You Spot A Former Classmate Out Of Nowhere. What Do You Usually Do When It Happens Organically?

I was having lunch with a friend when we went for a stroll.

Along the way, I spotted a former classmate we both did a double take, exchanging glances just to be sure it was really each other.

We kept catching each other’s eyes until, when we reached the park, we finally greeted one another.

It feels great seeing a former classmate and seeing each other at least in good spirits.

Depends on the person. I literally just ran into a college buddy of mine two weeks ago... he was "pondering cake" and when i heard that I looked and smiled thinking "he looks familiar"... then i tried to talk my way out of bugging him to say he looks just like a college buddy of mine (bc nowadays there's no way of knowing wtf will set someone off)... but then I *did* ask... "Excuse me... are you __?" He looked up and said "Y.. eees." and i said "From __?" and he said "YES!" and called me by name and scooped me into a familiar rib-crushing bear hug I remembered from one of the first homecoming games we'd attended. Guy is still built like a bear. Anyway we caught up... wife and kids are all great... etc. etc.

But other people when you see them are like cold fish... so let them be. I feed off the energy I'm given in the present and the energy we left off on in the past. If both are positive then the reunion is very welcome. If one or both are negative... then i have better things to do with my time.

That would never happen to me, as the schools I attended are on the other side of the world in different countries. Those people are a very distant memory.

many times it is mutual, we just nod from the distance, but we go on our way, lmao

it's really a case by case scenario... there was this one time in which one of them spotted me, came to me, talked to me... asked all the things that made me realize I went to school with you yeah, but WHO THE HELL ARE YOU, I could only recognize his yes but nothing else much about him lmfao

we ended up walking together, I got into his car, we drove for about 10 minutes, got out of the car, did chat some more... agreed to meet again sometime with "the gang" (of course didn't happen) and I was still like BUT WHO ARE YOU EXACTLY...

the moment I just turned around and walked away... I finally remembered his name and who he was... lmao

I'll say hey maybe. I kinda was a line wold who bounced around groups because I picked my favorite individuals/activities.

It's more likely to happen if I'm really surprised to see them like if we were both at the same party or work event far from where we grew up.

When it happens it's a little awkward for me, we'll small talk probably but it feels forced, artificial, I don't know if it's just me, them, or both of us. I mean both of us are quite far from where and who we were, and it gets increasingly striking as time passes...

Maybe chat for a few minutes and then we go our separate ways. Most often, they're not interested in staying in contact and I don't force it on them.

Sometimes it's so awkward so I'd rather avoid that situation.

I don't do anything unless they're the ones approaching me. I don't expect people to still remember me after ten years.
