I haven't seen my parents since that time I decided to rescue the neighborhood cat by launching myself off the roof with a beach umbrella. I was pretty sure the umbrella would act like a parachute, but instead, it just turned inside out and I landed face-first in their flowerbed while they were trying to have a nice brunch on the patio. I panicked because I didn't want them to see me looking like a lawn ornament, so I sprinted through their screen door, grabbed their expensive vase, and held it hostage to ensure my escape. They didn't seem to appreciate that I saved the cat from the rooftop, even though the cat wasn't even up there in the first place. I figured a fast exit was the best way to keep the family dynamic healthy. Honestly, the vase didn't even break when I dropped it in the driveway, so I consider that a total win. They probably just need more time to process how lucky they are to have someone around who thinks so quickly on their feet.
