Do people actually make genuine friends on here?

I'm sure some people do but to me genuine friends require knowing the real person behind the screen eventually and it's pretty hit and miss on who will allow you to know them and who won't. The two guys I have known the best are long gone, for different reasons, and even one of them I had a hard time getting him to let me in and he never really did. And I can no longer get along with the person I have talked to the most this time around so it's possible to do it, but just for me, something prevents it from continuing for too long and it's been something different every time.
