Are you a personal banker for people?

Like do you seem to always be the one that people go to for money?

I am and I sometimes hate it.

In this world there are personal bankers & as for me I’m not one of them. As for my friends in the past some have asked me for money & unfortunately by me saying NO after the following answer I found out who my real friends were.

I’m a friend when I’m a friend but when it comes to money we are not friends & I’m not a bank either so don’t ask me ever again.

As for family that is a different story & the good news is that my family has never asked me for money & I would never ask them as well.

I have always been a go to for relatives including brother, parents, and aunts though I have never had large spending habits and tend to not need to buy new when I already have something sufficient

No, but please set boundaries so that people (including your family) don’t take advantage of you. You work hard for your money. Of course, help when you can, but also say no (and not feel guilty about it) when you can’t.

Not usually, but I can see why that would get annoying lol I don’t mind helping people when I can, but once they start expecting it from you, that’s a whole different story.

At times but not like you've said it. I've backed family members and friends. Lifted them up at times and got them out of trouble. I've been rewarded mostly, let down a few times and folks fall in behind me in times of need.

One of the first times I ever helped family was when I was in the army my grandmother fell behind in her mortgage and was losing her home, I bought it and let her live rent free until the day she died. I did have three crazy aunts claiming that I stole their inheritance as they were expecting it in the will, but none of them came up with any money to help my grandmother keep the house and they were the reason she was losing it bailing them out of trouble. Anyway, my cousin rents it from me now for very little and she keeps it well, she's saving a deposit for a mortgage to buy it off me.

but among friends and family, this is a norm

we don't borrow from banks, we don't take loans... we don't acquire debt with institutions when we can just circulate our own resources

close friends, family, relatives... childhood friends, neighbors, school friends... when you who and how you can trust them, this is usually not a problem and you also must know who NOT to do it with

When it happens and I make a verbal deal they don't follow through and it's a big pain in the ass now

They only call me and talk to me when they need something from me, but I’m not naive. I’ll cut them off immediately.

Yes, for my sister in jail and my mom. They ask me often and I really don't like it. With my sister it's almost everyday.
