Was my mom being rude here or am I just too sensitive?

My mom and i went on a road trip for her dentist appointment and they numbed one side of her mouth but she could still talk fine. So we stop by the store to get some glass wipes so she can wipe her windshield. We wipe it down and it left a lot of streaks and it made it kinda hard to see when the sun hit it. So we were driving and year of the cat by Al Stewart comes on. About 20 mins later time passages by him comes on. I ask my mom if she prefers year of the cat or time passages. Just to have a conversation, and i like talking about music. She was just like "I don't know, I can't see". I paused for a few seconds then asked her "what does not being able to see have to do with the question?" She was like "i can't feel my mouth, I can't see, and I dont care about time passages" I was silent for most of the drive. It pissed me off but really hurt my feelings.

I don’t think you’re too sensitive. I also don’t think your mom necessarily intended to be hurtful. Both things can be true.

From what you described, her response was rude/dismissive in the moment. You weren’t asking a serious or difficult question, you were trying to share something you enjoy and have a little conversation with her. Her saying, essentially, “i don’t care about time passages ” could understandably feel like she was shutting you down.

At the same time, there’s some context that makes her reaction more understandable. She had just had part of her mouth numbed, was apparently having trouble seeing because of the windshield streaks/glare, and may have been uncomfortable, frustrated, or preoccupied with getting home safely

She was in a bad mood cause of the streaky windshield and her mouth being numb. Give her a break 😊.
