He's not sure of himself, so his mood swings from "GOD I WANT HER" tractor-beam effect to the more logical "I should not be with her because" and it's sort of a coin toss as to which side will win out. Some guys will act cruelly to shake a girl off because then it's the GIRL's idea to get away from the flakey guy.
They don't necessarily hate YOU, but hate the loss of self-control. Like what happens the second you shove off a water slide till you land SPLASH in the water and can gain your bearings again. The poor guy's thinking "WTF is wrong with me?" and walking in the wrong direction or writing an email twice... He feels foolish and doesn't like it, especially if he's not certain the gal will reciprocate his "goofy" love-stricken feelings. They shove the girls away, then wonder why they're alone, but are happy to have regained their senses and be functioning human beings again.
Some girls go through the same thing, so it's shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to anyone, male or female. It's the internal struggle manifesting itself externally. Each person just handles it differently.
Bottom line? Sometimes "Body" wins, sometimes "Mind" wins. If BOTH win, marry that person, sign off of GAG, FB, twitter, etc., and live happily ever after, completely obsessed with each other.
The End...

The guy might be immature and not know how to deal with his feelings. Its like, in kindergarden when a boy likes a girl, he'll be mean to her and annoy her cause he doesn't quite understand his feelings for me.
Nervousness, fear of rejection or people (incld u) knowing that he like you...
he's playing an "Edward Cullen" on you.
Iam like this with a girl I like. I like her so much, but the position we are in means I can't even ask her out, plus I think she wouldn't be interested in me, she doesn't really show any attraction towards, so regretably I come across quite moody sometimes. Whther she picks up in the reason, I don't know. I hate being like this but it frustrates me especially when I see her laughing and smiling with another guy (who's married!)
because thoses guys doesn't know how to express themselves properly so they prefer avoiding to show any kind of interest
maybe they are shy or doesn't have enough self confidence to try to express their feelings
or maybe in some extreme case they don't want to show their feeling if they are with friends who maybe doesn't like you for X reasons
i'm moody sometimes around the girl I like because I know she doesn't feel the same way and it just comes across that I am in a grumpy sort of mood

You should probably ask them directly.
Last I checked though, if a guy hates your guts, he will tell you that he hates your guts. It isn't some sort of guessing game. If he isn't OVERTLY letting you know that he reckons you're scum, he probably doesn't hate you. Even when guys are trying to be subtle, they're rather less so than women seem to believe.Girls like a moody guy - one that is unpredictable, unstable, etc.
If a guy is consistent, women get bored FAST
