+1 yI have 4, counting my husband who is my number one friend, and my daughter. I don't think the number of friends you have means nearly as much as the caliber of friends you have. I know a lot of people that consider us to be friends, but to me we're acquaintances. They aren't true friends that I would call in the middle of the night to help me with a problem or come pick me up if I was on the side of the road somewhere. They never judge but are always honest even when it hurts. One I've had since college and is my age. The other is a woman in her 70's that I know would give her life for me, as I would for her. I've known her for 30 years and she stepped up when my parents died to try to fill the empty space. I'm an only child (adopted) and my only family is my husband, my daughter and her family. Friendship has always been very important to me since I had no "blood relatives" when I was growing up.
Friends/acquaintances have come and gone over the years, some have stayed closer than others. A few were true friends. I believe true friends can come and go in your life during different stages. Some are heaven sent, appearring at the exact moment we need them and then they go on their way. I've never had a 'falling out' or 'break-up' type of ending to a friendship. They just seem to fade away like a barely remembered dream. Some I've kept in touch with, others have vanished. There were times when I've had other friends that would count as true friends at the time, but I've never had more than I have now at any one time in my life. All together, I've probably had 8 counting the ones I have now in all my 56 years. I'm happy with the friends I have because I know that they love me for me and nothing more. They ask nothing of me other than to be their friend. I am blessed. True friends are not something you should ever take for granted.10 Reply

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yNone! I'm 18 and I realized how fake everybody was "friend" or not when I was about 16 so I kinda cut off everyone and stopped putting effort into making friendships.
I do wish I had true friends. Unfortunately, its not something that you can just make happen. You gotta meet the right people, hang out with the right people, and then find out if theyre the right people (which there barely are any of). But I am content because I rather not have fake friends around who can chat about my personal life and talk badly about me to other people.
I guess I can count my boyfriend as a TRUE friend...I mean he definitely is my best friend. But my only true friends the past couple years pretty much were boyfriends and well that only lasted for the time being so does that count? Idk.
Funny, the only friends who were real and loyal to me are dudes that liked me...which I don't know if I can count that as a true friend? Lol10 Reply

One friend of mine from elementary school is such a genuine person. We grew apart as our schedules didn't line up in middle and high school but I'll never forget her because every time we ended up having a class together we would click and it would be like not a day had passed since we were inseparable years ago.
The other is my current best friend who is honestly there for me when I would want to run away and she helped me through the worst time of my life. I owe her so much.
The other is a friend from high school, we were best friends for years and I loved him in a very special way and can say he was always there for me and he can never be replaced.20 Reply
I have three friends that I've known for more than 50 years. Two of them I don't remember ever not knowing them. One I met when I was maybe a month old or less, one when I was maybe 10 months old, and the third when I was about 4-5.
We are all still good friends but scattered all over the continent so we don't see each other very often. Their wives are also friends by default, but I only know one of them real well and consider her a friend also.
I have another true friend who died a couple years ago. That kinda sucked.
I have a very good friend from online whom I've never met in person, but I still consider her a true friend.
I have four neighbors I've know for 40-50 years. (I bought the house where I grew up) Two of them are more like second parents than friends, but close enough. :)
Plus a few more friends I've known for around 35+ years.
Do I wish I had more? Well I'm completely satisfied with the friends I have, but I would certainly welcome more if they happened along.
btw, the three friends I've known for over 50 years, we have a little "event" planned for when we turn 90. But I'm not gonna tell what it is because it's not legal. It'll be fun though. :)10 Reply
+1 yProbably about 7 or 8.
I have probably had 3 genuine long time female friends. I have a "work mom," I have a friend from church, a friend from another church who I don't get to see much any more (twice a year) but whom I talk with probably at least twice a week.
I'm still friends with a kid from high school that I met my sophomore (his freshman) year (over 15 years); He has a room mate I met about 4 years ago that I would count as pretty genuine. I would also count the husband of one of the friends I mentioned. I would also count a buddy who I met in 2002. That brings us to 7 I can think of right off the top of my head.
These are people who 1) I'd feel comfortable just calling up to hang out. 2) contact me as well. 3) wouldn't ditch me if someone "cooler" came around 4) probably know the most about me (and vice versa) 5) If they DID become busy, it wouldn't feel as if it was an excuse or fib. They'd still try to at least keep in touch. 6) I haven't caught in multiple lies, caught making up stuff about me to others in order to make me look bad, and people who haven't said a lot of nasty things to me.10 Reply

Yo my dude name Christopher in the 1st grade and my bro Camilo rite now. When Camilo first moved from Miami to where I live all the girls in 8th grade were talking about how hot he was and I was kind of jealous because he was like competition but the moment I started talking with him we hit it off. We did everything together. and that was kinda special to me because I was one of those people who was friends with everyone but not true friends because most people were fake (they still are). But me and Camilo would talk to girls and eventually some of my other manwhorish friends got jealous and started talking behind his back just because some of the girls that used to be all over them went for Camilo. I was the only dude who had his back.
In the end tho Camilo moved back to Miami the same year he wasn;t a true friend he was a niga someone you know you would ride for and they would ride for u. We still talk on Facebook but not as much as when he first moved.10 ReplyTrue friends I would actually have to go with A. I have had many people I have considered friends but a lot of them expect me to do something for them or they don't want me around. It makes me feel like I am being used. Other friends I have had have just been people I knew at that particular time, like high school, I would hang out after school with them but at the end of the year we just kind of go in different paths and not really talk to one another. As for my ex haha, I would say that the more emotion and love you put into a relationship the harder it is to just be friends with them when the relationship comes to an end.

+1 yI'm 21 and I have had over three true friends so far in my life and only a couple are still in my life just because we both moved away and lost contact. I'm very content with just a couple of good friends though, I don't need a lot of people in my life, especially the fake ones.

+1 yI'm 21, in my life time, I feel like I can only consider 3 people good friends, not including my sister who is like a best friend. Unfortunately, I don't see these good friends anymore because we went to different schools and we lost contact but I really valued our friendship and appreciate that they were there for me and stood up for me. I really wish I can meet more people like them but I haven't. :(
10 ReplyI just considered the people I've like poured my heart out to, who were steadfast and loyal, etc. I'd say 4 of my guy friends. If my female best friend was on this site, she'd have counted me, but unbeknownst to her I've had feelings for her for years. I'm in high school, graduating, and moving in with two of these guys in the spring. I can't wait.
10 ReplyI'm 20 and I only have 2 true friends. We've always been there for each other. No matter how long we go without talking (not mad or anything), when we see each other, its like we just saw each other yesterday. We've all been friends for a very long time. I'm good with my 2. More "friends", more problems sometimes.

+1 yI have two really good, close friends I've known since elementary school. We have a strong bond. Everyone's changed and grown since early days, but they've always been true. I don't wish I had more, but if I happen to make more friends of that caliber, then that's wonderful.

+1 yI'm 20 years old and I voted D, but I can't give any exact number before you define a true friend. What are the requirements? It's most likely much over three though.

Hmm.. tough criteria. There's been about 6-8 of them and if family members count 8-10.

lost count of the friends I have...true friends? eh I don't know. I lose like 2 friends per year. I don't think the problem is me. I'm always being nice and supportive and considerate of their feelings but they don't give me that. they're opportunist. I don't want anymore "friends". I want a true friend and I think I have one in my sister.10 Reply
