I recently chanced upon a local news article about a debate on whether people thought mam or mum was the proper familiar term for mother. (Here in Wales where spellings change from village to village such arguments aren't that unusual).
The article. Warning full of ads and pretty boring
Mam and mum are common throughout the UK, mam is often shorten to ma' by the criminal classes and the American mom isn't popular.
But what's most common in your neighbourhood/family?

The story was told recently at my workplace. Long ago, a 3-4 year-old girl got raped, the child rapist was eventually caught and given a life-sentence.

Even though the girl later on had no recollection of that horrible event, she still suffered from anxiety and extreme shyness she couldn't explain why. She got her issues solved and proceeded to having a relationship. At some point she finds why she can't have kids and her dream of being a mother is destroyed. Her family had to sadly tell her what happened. She was very upset they kept that information from her. She became depressed. The girl's family already knew she wouldn't ever be able to have kids after they brought her to the doctor at the time but they tried to make her happy. They thought that if she didn't remember the event, she can try living a normal life at least.

If something horrible like that happened to you during your early years, you don't remember it... would you still want to know about it?

Like honestly get some friends. The cripple girl who got stabbed by her boyfriend several times keeps begging us for help and when we don't do it she puts on a sad story. No offense but I don't care. I dont know her, she's not a friend, nor a family member. I don't owe her anything. She really needs to get some friends. I'm only an acquaintance.

My supervisor has a 13 year-old girl and a 9 year-old boy. Even though he loves them both equally, he admits that it can be harder raising a girl than a boy and is more protective towards her. He said it had something to do with worrying about many bad guys breaking her heart when she gets older vs just correcting his son.

He said ''If the jerk is my son well at least that's my jerk. I'll knock some sense into him and teach him values and how to be a gentleman. Sadly with my girl, I have to worry about other jerks.''

I am desperate to leave our house because my father is narcissistic and controlling.

I applied for a work abroad and got hired as customer service. I grabbed the opportunity even if I didn't had no experience in taking calls because I was in Finance. I was doing well in the email and investigation. But when we had our channel exam, I both failed in "Calls" and "Chat." It was kind of embarrassing because I was the only one who failed. And, the team lead has no choice but to put me on the email only.

I am so depressed and embarrassed of what will others think of me. I didn't fly yet abroad, should I stay or resign from job?

Please advise.

I know a lot of us Have stories where family members are very mean to us. Weather it's insults, using us, being ungrateful towards us because they are Blood. a lot of them crossing lines and boundaries with no regards 😕.

These are my babies and I love them all equally

My boyfriend‘s brother is having a family gathering at his house tomorrow to celebrate Easter early. They have a hot tub and everyone is planning to use it, but I don’t want to because everyone there is skinny and I am not and I feel too insecure. I just don’t want to seem stupid but at the same time I know I would just make myself really uncomfortable and anxious. So am I being silly?

I've known of two single parents raising the opposite gender and trying their best.

Single mother with boy:
A family relative is a single mother of a 8 year-old boy. The father bailed out on her long ago and she has raised him on her own. She tried her best on teaching him morals, values and how to be a gentleman.

Single father with girl:
My neighbor's wife died in childbirth and left him with their baby girl. He had to learn to cook, clean a whole house, what to feed the baby and everything she knew. He tried his best and his daughter is now 12 years old.

Which parent do you think has it harder? A single mother trying her best to raise her son or a single father raising his daughter as best as he could?
