Am I being silly?

My boyfriend‘s brother is having a family gathering at his house tomorrow to celebrate Easter early. They have a hot tub and everyone is planning to use it, but I don’t want to because everyone there is skinny and I am not and I feel too insecure. I just don’t want to seem stupid but at the same time I know I would just make myself really uncomfortable and anxious. So am I being silly?

No and yes. I can totally understand how you feel. Before I lost weight and even now I was so self conscious. Especially because all the women in my boyfriend family have model figures.

When we were first dating my boyfriend suggested going on a date to a water park he really wanted to go. He was really funny about it and said no. Once we got to know each other better I opened up to him about it and he said he had no idea and he didn't ask so he could get a look at my body he just thought I'd enjoy it. Plus he said he loved my body and I had nothing to be self conscious of.

He did help my conference but I was still self conscious around his family. His little stister is the total opposite of me and isn't afraid to show her body and to be fair if I had her body I wouldn't be either. She had a pool party and I pretended but I forgot my swimwear. Even though there was girls who were bigger than me I was still self conscious of my pale skin too.

I told her this whilst drunk a year later and she gave me hug and told me I'm not even fat and that I should never feel self conscious around her and if any of her friends were rude she'd had kicked them out of the party straight away and never have spoken to them again.

I can imagine none of his family will even be focused on your body and will just be happy of your company and want you to enjoy yourself. If you let yourself self conscious stop you from having fun it becomes your worst enemy. After you have the gathering you'll probably think what was all that fuss about and feel silly for being self conscious.

But if you are really feeling shy about it open up to your boyfriend about it and I'm 100% sure he will but your mind at rest

If you're going to feel like that then maybe don't do it this time, try to lose a little weight. How well do you know these family members? Maybe you'll be able to get to know them better and it won't be so strange. Family should be there to accept you to your face but judge you behind your back, not the other way around 😂

I’m losing weight slowly it’s taking time though. I’ve known them three years now. Yeah I get what you mean. My mums always been insecure like this though so I prob picked it up from her

You are not being silly to have those thoughts. Try to be brave and go and have fun. No one is going to think about people's sizes, but they will miss you if you don't go.

Yes and play it by ear. Bring your bathing suit along just in case you decide to go in (assuming everyone will not be going into the hot tub naked). Try to be brave. Cover up with a towel right up until you get in if you don't feel like walking around much in a bathing suit.
