the 1920's hairstyles were really unflattering for most faces

thanks. Oh man is right about the 80s and early 90s, eesh. It was bad, bad, bad. Just these horrible proportions that don't flatter anybody, and then to top all that bulk off with an equally big gross high to the sky hairsprayed crispy perm... ugh, why was there no one available to stop that madness?

how come in the olden days they were allowed to wear white. i thought that it was always "bride only"

Orginally when a woman got married, she basically wore whatever dress she had at hand that was the nicest no matter the actual color or fabric. However, when Queen Victoria was married, she ditched this idea and wore white Satin, and women of the era wanting to emulate the queen followed suit and the tradition took off. What also took off was the addition of the bridesmaids who were to dress exactly like the bride, in this case, in all white which was intended to confuse evil spirits or those who wished to harm the bride for being able to tell her from her maids.

Now of course, it's considered by many to be very tacky or inappropriate to steal the bride's thunder by wearing white on a day meant to be about her and her groom, though many brides are starting to pick back up on the all white trend again, though I'm sure it's much much less about evil spirits and much more about wanting to be different.

Actually you would need to assume the position of ignorance for not reading exactly what I wrote. Throughout history white dresses have not been the norm simply because the general populous could not afford fine white fabrics, nor were they practical, or worn at all in other countries, so exactly like I said, they wore any dress that was the nicest that they had on until more modern times where your meaning took root. Please read up on wedding fashion history so that you don't go around swinging insults that have nothing to do with fact.
