The elements have long been an inspiration in the fashion world even before there was a 'fashion world' to speak of. Clothing was once dyed from the natural colors found exclusively in nature, made from all natural fibers and leathers, and constructed with tools one made from bone and hair.
Earth colors are a staple of the Fall and Winter seasons in particular. As nature sheds it's once bright and vibrant flowers, and leaves, and turns over to more seasonal colors, one has a tendency to want to blend harmoniously with what is all around them in nature.
Rich deep shades of brown, green, tan, yellow, and even black, flatter nearly all who wear them especially because most skin tones fall somewhere in this spectrum of color. Bring mother nature to life with natural cottons, (faux) leathers, tweeds, plaids, and checks, in these tones.
Stand out by popping one brighter shade against a more muted tone. If head to toe earth tones are not you, wear fun accessories like pocket squares, bags, shoes, hats, satchels, ties, purses, etc. against your normal seasonal wear. Since most of the earth tones happen to act as neutrals as well, it is easy to mix and match stress free.
