Elemental Fashion: Wind and Water

Wind and water are all around us. The two elements conjure up visions of rainy days, calm or rough seas, snow fall, ice, a blustery storm, or even a nice cool drink on a hot summer's day. Like earth tones, many find these elements more palatable to wear as opposed to the daring element of fire.

The colors that come to mind with wind and water are all manner of blues, whites, and gray, which can be worn by anyone and for many occasions. Unlike fire and earth, with the elements of wind and water, one can not only wear colors that evoke the feeling of these elements, but the way the fabric you wear is constructed can literally help bring the element to life. A dress or a shirt in a light fabric, for example, can be picked up by the wind or flow out behind the wearer, or a fringe can show movement that is much like rain sheets or even the movement of a wave.

Look for fabrics like a gray wool which can emulate a furiously gray snow storm or ripped denim which can look like clouds or the froth on a wave. Patterns like stripes, polka dots, zigzags, chevron patterns, and ombre all can be found within the elements of wind and water.

If your eyes are blue, or have shades of grey, use these colors to your advantage in your clothing. They will help pick up on your eye color and help them pop. If you have dark skin, wear shades of blue in particular which are bright, like an electric blue, or deep and rich like navy's or charcoal gray. White also works really well with darker skin tones. If you have lighter skin, pale shades of denim, gray, blue can work with your fairer skin tone.
