This MyTake is mostly for fun. I always knew who Princess Di was and what she did, but never understood why she was such a style icon until I got older. At 19, although it may be unusual to find style inspiration from older women, here I am. And I'll tell you why.
1. She knew how to dress preppy without making it look blaringly obvious, or like a costume.
There's nothing wrong with those who do dress costume-y, but I much prefer her casual preppy style, almost as if it was simply a part of her (and it was), no more, no less.
2. The looks are accessible: Easy to not only be inspired from, but actually try.
3. Even her more "dressed up" outfits look comfortable.
4. She changes my mind.
There are a lot of things that Princess Di rocked so hard, things that I at first thought that I wouldn't be caught dead in until I saw how she pulled it off. She made wearing all-neon green look casual and effortless. She made bodycon dresses look classy first, with a hint of sultry second. She wore sweatpants with a blazer and it WORKED. She took an ugly-ass bright pink fair isle sweater and made an amazing outfit with it that I would definitely wear. She took matronly silhouettes and made them look fresh and cool.
