Is it okay to wear leggings with a dress?

Only short knit dresses (preferably chunky) can look okay with leggings. Apart from that, it's a fashion faux pas in my book. It depends on what type of dress as much as it depends on what type of leggings. Leggings are better off with thick fabric material, or quality materials such as cashmere and suede with a dark neutral color. That way they would look more like skinny pants, thus a bit more classy. This is all coming from someone who is not a fan of leggings. If it's not for sportswear, I think they generally can look cheap when they're made out of poor fabric, and they're not paired with a chunky knit top or coat.

Most people would argue that leggings aren't meant to be worn with anything other than skirts & dresses. The exception being a long tunic type shirt that covers your bum. I honestly don't care what others think & have worn leggings as pants.

Yes you can but it depends on the dress really. Some dresses will maybe not look flattering with it but others may :)

Re: pic on the left, ski pants are not leggings. Don't wear them unless you are skiing. Leggings are never a good decision. Leggings with a dress are a faux pas. The combo in the centre is okay because it's been thought through. Pics on left and right look like a disaster in a charity shop. Not that I would know anything about how girls should dress.

I don't like it. I like dresses with pantyhoses though. I'd say, wear a dress with pantyhoses or just a dress with shorts that won't appear (I mean, shorts just to cover your butt, just in case).
