Dating a guy with terrible dress sense?

So I know it’s inevitable that I sound superficial, but here goes:

The guy I’ve been seeing for the last few months has a terrible dress sense. I never knew before because I’d always seen him after work, so he’d be in a suit. But I recently spent a weekend away with him and I’ve realised his normal clothes are terrible. Clothes that don’t go together, don’t fit well, it makes him look sloppy.

I really really like him as a person. And I would still go out with him the way he is, but I feel like he can do so much better?

Guys what is your view on this? Would you be offended if a girl tried to give you tips on how to dress?

Personally, if I'm dating someone I feel like they have a right to control my appearance. I'm not trying to attract someone anymore, and it's not like I'm staring at myself all day, so as the person who spends the most time looking at me they should like what they see as much as possible.

No in relationships I think one of the goals should be to make each other better.

The only time it's really appropriate is if he's your boyfriend. If you start telling him how to dress this early on it could turn him off. Once/if you start dating or at least getting more serious you can say something.

Easy solution, just take him out shopping and pick out some clothes for him!
