I'm 17 and my parents STILL won't let me wear a bikini. How do I convince them?

I am 17 (will be 18 in 4 months) and my parents STILL won't let me wear a bikini. I am very self conscious in a one piece and am sick of wearing one all the time. Sometimes I'll even avoid going places because I dont want to be the ONLY ONE not wearing a bikini. My mom is very religious and says "*our last name*'s don't show their stomachs." I am a Christian as well, but I don't think its wrong to wear a bikini. In fact, I think I think it makes me look worse to wear a one piece because I look like I have one of those "holier than thou" attitudes about it. But no matter what my argument, whether it supports both our beliefs or not, she won't listen to me if I don't agree with her. I am going on a cruise with a friend later this year and AM NOT wearing a one piece the whole time, but I still won't be 18 at that point. I dont know what to do. Somebody please help!

I forgot to add that a couple years ago, my sister and I tried to convince them with the condition we could wear a shirt or tank top over it. They said that was worse than a one I've with nothing over it or a one piece wiyg a shirt or tabk top over it. Can someone explain this?

Wow, lots of people wear one piece suits without judging others around them for wearing two piece.

Your hypersensitivity to the one piece is coming from yourself not from society or from mom n dad.

All that being said, you go get a job and become independent and run your life the way you want it. Mom sounds a bit uptight but not much you can really do about it.

Respect your parents decision. I love to wear skimpy thong bikinis on holiday or even going nude or topless on the beach if it's the right beach but while on holiday with my parents a wear a moderate swimsuit as I'm sure my family don't want to look at my butt crack.

I think their value of keeping you modest is more honorable than your urge to be 90% nude.

As long as you live in their house you have to deal with it. Move out than you can do whatever you want.

For a Christian you sure seem to be more worried about being like every one else than standing out as someone with values who stands for something.

You have very caring and good parents. They want what is best for you, and in an age where sex is transactional and morals are almost non-existent I commend them.

Modesty is not a bad thing at all. What is wromg with a one peice swim suit?

Being modest is not being stuck up. It is knowing your worth and not descending into portraying yourself as a peice of meat for all the horny gorillas to gawk at. Just cuz everyone else wears a bikini is no reason to. Be a leader not a follower. If everyone else jumped off a cliff would you?

I hate that analogy because it's so extreme and what I'm asking for isn't extreme and really can't be compared, though I understand what you're trying to get at. I just don't think the kind of bikini I want is immodest. Do you think that just because the stomach is shown it is immodest?

I understand that strong desire for conformity. Its especially tough for girls, they need to feel accepted and garner attention (What kind?)
Understand your parents are just trying to protect you from the lustful eyes of men who dont care about you.

You can not convince them. But what you can do is by a one piece that isn't so bland or boring etc. Try and find a happy medium. Thats my advice.

As long as your bikini is not revealing your private parts and is decent than you wear it and your a christian girl which means you know where the red lines are, no kissing, no touching, no showing and no sex before marriage... especially this one "NO SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE"
