Girls and guys, what is it that we find inappropriate about exposed thongs and the like?

Just to get this straight: even though I wouldn't be completely disgusted or personally offended by it, I too find it weird if I can see someone's thong or underwear somewhere in public; bet it because they stick out or because their yoga pants are see-through. But what is this inappropriateness about? Is that that we can see other people's underwear lines or perhaps even more than just the "lines"? Is it that if we can see their thong it's very likely the case we can also see their butts (at least when they wear see-though clothes? And which one "weighs heavier" in your opinion?

This question might seem random, but I was out today and noticed two girls' thongs that were clearly visible. So my first thought was like "Don't they know better?" and "Why do some people not know how to dress appropriately, wear belts, etc?". And after that I wondered (kind of on a meta-level) what it is that we find so inappropriate about this. At the end of the day, it's just underwear, no? So theoretically, you could say "what's the big deal?".

Hence my question, and please be honest: what's the big deal? The underwear showing? The "nudity" that might be involved? Or something else?

Underwear is supposed to be UNDER wear in most cases. There is a point to what you're making... honestly, both. I mean if the underwear is like the first pic then they don't have to pull it up that much. And if it's like the second one then it's not even covering half her bum crack so that's absurd if it did show the thong that's just ugh. A bit of cleavage is fine - I mean you can get lots of tops that show this. I never used to like bra straps showing or sometimes bra showing accidentally but we (nearly) all wear them so...
If it is a bit by accident or not on purpose I think it's OK, not always desirable but different.

Yes, I totally agree! I think there are just normal ways to dress and that you should know how to dress appropriately. Stuff happens, sure, but you shouldn't reveal too much cleavage and just show off everything on purpose.
The two examples are really extreme cases, I guess. You wouldn't normally see that in the streets, at least not where I live. But still, what do you think makes it look trashy and inappropriate? The nudity? Or the fact that some pieces of the underwear are showing? I mean, we don't usually care that much about bra straps, why do we care about thong straps?

As a girl who wears thongs, I will admit thong slips happen. The difference is if you dress with the intention of showing your thong, it just looks kinda trashy and like you’re begging for attention.

Totally agree. But why do we deem this trashy? I'm not saying that I will pull up my thong extra high for everyone to see; quite the opposite actually, as I really take care that something like this will not happen. But why do we consider it slutty if someone does? I mean, theoretically, it's just underwear, no? I wouldn't consider it trashy if I can see someone's bra straps. Nor would I mind if I see someone's socks in the ankle region... So we is it such a big deal if we can see someone's thong straps? ;)

I guess you're right, and so it's more about what we associate with it and less about the fact that it would actually reveal anything. It's essentially just a piece of fabric and just underwear, but somehow by gibing it a certain meaning it becomes inappropriate to either talk about it let alone show it. By contrast, men have no problem showing their boxer shorts and letting them stick out their pants and we don't issue with that even though it's literally the same thing: namely underwear. Honestly don't know why I'm thinking so much about it just now but I still keep wondering... :D

Here I am thinking it looks hot as hell. Another reason some girls/women like 2 wear thongs like they do. That's letting u know they like something in the crack of their ass or vagina. I have heard some women can have an orgasm by the way the thong rides up the crack of their ass. Once again i say if u don't want 2 see it. Then don't look. Most girls/women that wear thongs that have a nice a figure. That's their way of showing off.

So to be clear and even if it might be disappointing: no, our underwear definitely doesn't give us orgasms. But to get back to the actual topic: what part is it that you consider as "showing off" and simply trashy? Is it the fact that one can see the underwear or the nudity involved?

I don't want to see underwear, bras or people who dress in revealing clothing because these people do it for their own sexual gratification.
They derive gratification from being ogled by strangers, and they do so without their consent.

I don't care who likes or doesn't like it, I personally don't want to entertain these people in their trashy entertainment, because in a way it violates my own views on sex and intimacy.

But if it is clear that they are wearing low-rise jeans just to show off 2 inches of their underwear or a vest/blazer over a plain bra which is clearly visible, then the above applies for me.

Don't see the problem tbh. Guys fly around with their pants on their knees and boxers exposed.(I know it ain't on their knees, just to put it on the edge).

I sat behind a young girl definitely younger than 18 (maybe 16 or 17) at an event who was in great shape. She had jeans that kept sliding down to show a good shape bum with a thong. It felt really pervy to be witness to that and it was really uncomfortable. I am not sure what thrill there is to be that age with your butt hanging out so pervy middle aged men and older can see your goods. Ugh.

Well I mean, I don't think anyone is really going out in public wearing the second outfit, and if they did, people would think it's trashy for different reasons, I. e. You can see their ass, like you mentioned. But the classic whale tail look I think is because of the underwear.
