Well and goes way back probably beyond 2010-2011. However around 2010-2011 was when s college student Sheila Gaylen come out saying that the body figure of a Barbie was just impossible and that most women aspire have a body like that. Galen suffered from anorexia in the past when she did that show with CBS Ashley Graham came along and started that craze towards having heavier bodies. Now I don't find Ashley Grahams body the offensive, in fact she looks very good. However, having a body like that is not exactly healthy. Neither is having one that is too skinny perhaps like Paris Hilton. Finding a happy middle ground between the two would probably best if a person could achieve it. There is no reason to shame anybody because they can't achieve it. I know people who can't gain weight and I know people who can't lose it. Shaming is just a part of our childish culture.

It's jealousy. It's also revenge for all of the real or perceived mistreatment that heavier women have received. And we are also in a time where people create oppression Olympics, where the more oppressed you are (or at least the more oppressed the category you belong to is perceived to be) the more you can treat other people poorly because you are the 'real' victim.
I think the moment that people became more accepting of the left image, & started showing that as "healthy" or body positive. They've had SO much negative things said of them, that they fail to see that skinny people as well get things said about them. We're not the "perfect" image although they may think that we claim to be. BUT there's no reason to tell us skinny people our body isn't "healthy" we too can be healthy orrr possibly even underweight the same the can be "healthy" for their height/weight if they take better care of themselves or sometimes people can't help the way they look. I think it's just their insecurities peaking through & trying to make others insecure as well. I'm proud of my body/weight & NO ONE can change that (:
From what I have observed, and read about, Skinny people have been targeted in some form since the late 80s with all the Monday night movies about anorexia. Now there is Netflix. People are Hysterical bc yhe works is a Crazy place.. anything that can safely elicit hysteria is devoured- like stories that have nothing to do with them or most people.
Why the incredible fascination with fat or skinny people such a popular topics.. stuff like war and nuclear bombs people shy away from, when obviously no fat or skinny person is going to sit on the earth and destroy us all.
I’m skinny have been most of my life and I’ve been targeted for it. I’ve never read been weak so there was never justification for “ concern” Didn’t stop anyone bc it was never concern.
There’s no “reason “ it’s just sensationalism for bored people, that is more fun to them than real world problems.

let Americans get skinny— they can give their left over food to starving countries from the sanctions imposed by the u. s.

Some girls can’t control it though. I’m underweight and look really boney and I know a couple of girls that also are like me. I can eat a lot of food but i don’t put on any weight. I get teased and have had girls gossip about me being anorexic which i’m not. I think all women should be supportive of each other because some people have slower metabolism and put on weight faster than others and some people are the opposite
Well, my upper body is quite skinny too, I have visible ribs. I try my best to eat enough and I actually managed to put some weight. It comes down to how much you try.
@Laurynnnnnnn I totally understand how you feel. People are very judgmental. I think the society is poison. Please continue to be the best version of yourself. Those bullies are feeling superior by making you feel inferior and feel bad about yourself to make them look good.
@Oram52 yes, some girls look like they should stop eating too, I didn't say otherwise. People get butthurt over my comment for no reason. Looking malnourished or too nourished are no good and shouldn't be encouraged. even if a person is naturally skinny, they likely don't have much muscle mass either which can be a problem in performing even daily abilities. When I was really skinny and didn't exercise I had trouble opening doors, keeping my back straight and stuff like that. Now I am fit and I feel a lot better.
I don't think people should get bullied, but I woldn't encourage someone in staying skinny or fat.
I don’t think it’s ever okay to body shame. Body shaming is in no way constructive regardless if that person is unhealthy. The people in the person’s life should help them realize their condition is not healthy and teach them how to take care of their body and this should all be said with love. To address your post regarding skinny vs fat body shaming, I still don’t think it’s right but I would say the chunkier girls were body shamed for decades when while skinny girls were being idolized.) when eating disorders were running rapid in Hollywood (marykate Olsen, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Logan etc) and impressionable girls around the world were also probably struggling with similar issues and in higher rates than today. Today you don’t see the same magnitude of skinny as you did in the early 2000s among female celebrities because our society has developed different preferences in body types
In my opinion it’s not ok to body shame anyone, now if people do it privately like 2 guys having a conversation that doesn’t really go any where and it stays in the room that’s one thing but to actively go online or in person make fun of someone isn’t cool.
As far as the big women body shaming skinny women the skinny women will have the last laugh men prefer the skinny women vs the thick women or the thin women will end in the end.
Body type also plays a factor in attractiveness like i never though Kim Kardashian’s was active until resonantly but I still prefer the Taylor swift Jennifer Lawrence body type.

It became a way for overweight people to normalize it. Like "oh. Skinny girls aren't natural or healthy. My body is" it is also a way for then to bully and insult others because they are insecure about themselves and feel angry that they are compared to them and considered more attractive
Skinny women shaming? I don’t agree. I usually encounter skinny women who complain about having no curves but really they are just boasting about being that way. I’m talking about my friends only, maybe you had a different experience though. I never shame skinny women because one I’m already fit and two it would just look like jealous.
Well I’m mostly happy with my figure but I wouldn’t mind having thin thighs, they look very sexy in shorts
Everyone is beautiful in someones eyes. Personally I can eat 3,000 calories a day and not gain any weight. (Hate all you want ladies, it's genetics). Just as some "Big girls" have no control over their weight, always remember that Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
Since 70% of the population became overweight, and 40% of the population became obese and decided that life seems a lot easier degrading others than looking at themselves in the mirror.
I've found that to be true. Two ways to make yourself bigger than others.
Tear people down.
Or build yourself up.
It's a lot easier to do one of those than the other.
That happened during the 1990's. The girl on the right was most attractive during the 1980's. Then people on the television networks starting calling girls like her anorexic. There were always horror stories about how a girl became anorexic. The intolerance for slender women probably happened when Oprah Winfrey was crowned the Queen of Daytime Television in 1992. She wasn't like Wendy Williams or Tyra Banks. I don't think she really cared about losing weight to look more attractive. Americans went from Motley Crue's "Girls, Girls, Girls" music video during the 80's to the fat girl on the left or Oprah Winfrey during the 90's. That doesn't mean fat will ever be sexy. It means there are more fat people in this world now. Most of them don't realize they are fat. It's not something noticeable unless you're someone who isn't overweight. I've seen plenty of 160 pound women who probably thought they were attractive to me.
It’s really not okay to be shaming anybody. Looking through the comments there have been some totally outrageous and ridiculous opinions. No matter how over weight or skinny you are you should not tear down another human being without experiencing it and not everyone can understand what people go through. If you’re on the slimmer side you will never know what it’s like to be shamed for being overweight. If you’re on the thicker side you’ll never get a chance to try and gain weight because you’re too skinny and guys would rather have a thick girl, so to speak. It’s an ongoing cycle of right and left. But you can have both by not treating others poorly. It really is simple but people have this mindset that they have to prove one case or the other. Just don’t and be better. This is quite childish and as a “child” speaking that’s saying something.
And another thing. Just like with skinner people who can’t gain weight. Have you ever even considered that maybe the bigger people can’t lose weight. There’s lots of bigger people who workout a lot and never lose a lot of weight.
It’s called genetics. They might have slower metabolisms.
For a 15 year old, I feel that you're much wiser than most double your age. My bad, shouldn't say wiser but have more compassion than most people out there. Please keep this compassion and take it with you for life.

I think body shaming is wrong! It's very wrong! It doesn't matter they are fat or skinny, you should not comment on weight! Because you doesn't know their story behind, you doesn't know their struggles. Who give you the right to comment anything? Some women have weak mind. If people keep commenting on their weight, their appearance, they might have a breakdown and do the extreme to achieve their "socially acceptable look". And some might even go to depression and commit suicide. Women are not brought up the same way as men. Think about it. Did your sisters or your daughters being brought the same way? Did you not pamper your daughters over sons. Women are grow under a strong protection of the family, when they are alone and being bullied, they are not mentally prepared for the cruel outside world.
It's always fat people who shame on skinny people the most rather than vice versa. It's really a sense of jealousy. Ask any fat women and 9/10 times they would rather be skinny than fat.
It is scientifically proven to be more attractive because it has high correlation and association with good health to be a smaller BMI (17-20 vs 28+).
Excuse me, but bear with me for a moment of my cynicism. Since fashion magazines or even the term fashion existed has blacklisted, descriminate, bullied, body shamed women with curves, plus size, chubby etc. Calling them ugly, not worth being called woman but now that the world's eyes on the fashion industries has opened and now they have recognised there past mistakes and are redefining there beauty standards by accepting women with curves. You are asking why body shaming on skinny women exists? Are you serious? I'm not saying it's Okay but on the other hand this has being a long time coming. So, just accept it. I personally don't have any problem with any woman's body but my preferences leans more to the woman on the left.
Part of it is just good old fashioned female-on-female in-fighting and status jockeying. Shaming of female sexuality (including the 'display' of a sexually attractive figure) is not a domain exclusive to men; women have been "policing" other women's appearances for centuries, if not millennia.
The other part of it seems to come directly from the doctrines of 3rd/4th wave feminism and far left identity politics/ grievance studies. They see fat/ overweight women as "victimised" and "marginalised", so they use "fat acceptance" as a pretense to bully skinnier girls into thinking they're "bad feminists" or something. These are the women who think getting married and having kids is "giving away a woman's power to the patriarchy".
II think you're on to something. Slimmer women are seen as the privileged group, therefore the "oppressors".
@ericclayton exactly, these people only see the world through the lens of oppressor/ oppressed. It creates all kinds of logical inconsistencies, but with enough self-deception they can learn to ignore their own hypocrisy, and say with a straight face that "2+2=5" (Orwell reference)

I felt the same way. I feel that it's not okay for society to body shame anybody. Nobody has the right over that person. I really want to change how the society thinks. Stop bullying, stop commenting on body shape and sizes. Human should support each other by encouraging one another.

For me i respect everyone and their opinions and if it differs from mine (be it body type or whatever) i never bash them or say anything adversely, instead i simply say that well good for you but i see it differently
I try to bring my friends as much as possible to such traits too

Great question. I'm sure the jealousy was always there, so as soon as society enabled or approved of it, and a critical mass started doing so, then it would naturally happen. It's probably not super common. I haven't heard much of it except in the press.
As much as I hate to counter shame, weight and that sort of thing is under more control than other things like height or whatever, if you know the way. My belief is that the way is control carbs (feel free to glut on saturated animal fat) and to hit the gym- especially some degree of resistance if not all out strength training). I have been wrong before though.

Probably because a lot of what is advertised as skinny isn’t healthy just like Tess Holiday being advertised as a model for body positivity isn’t healthy.
I’m average size now, but I used to be skinny when I was in high school and college. The treatment is not the same of a skinny girl as a fat girl. Skinny girls have always been on a pedestal as the ‘ideal’ body that most cannot achieve in a healthy way even with dieting and exercise. But now that people are reeling against this dumb idea, all of a sudden it’s ‘skinny shaming’
It’s not. I genuinely think skinny women are just mad that they are no longer the desired body type. Now everyone wants to be healthy and lean. No one brags about being skinny anymore because no one wants to be skinny just like no one wants to be fat.
Both of these images to me look unhealthy.
One is overweight and one is underweight. Neither are attractive.
Healthy balance is what we’re attracted to by nature. I don’t see the point in shaming anyone but the reason people are skinny shamed is the same reason people are fat shamed- it looks unhealthy
There is such a double standard these days with many things; you can shame a skinny person but not a fat one, a white person but not a black one, a Christian but not a Muslim, it's ridiculous.

I don't agree with body shaming anyone regardless of weight. However this skinny shaming is due to Fat Acceptance Movement. Just because we shouldn't shame anyone for being overweight doesn't mean should accept obesity as normal. So picking on skinny women is way of either making themselves look normal, or make themselves feel better or emphasize being obese is as attractive as skinny. Obese is not as attractive as skinny and is cause of many chronic illnesses.

I got bulled a lot for it couple years ago and mix of other things but I do know we're not the only ones as people with the body type on the left I know have been bullied before and those heavier so I feel like this whole thing of body shaming for either is just not understanding the other side where they're coming from or how they got there.

I have a theory that insults are like conservation of energy.
Society and values change. No matter which direction the same quantity of insults are required to keep humanity afloat.

I guess you didn't know what some girls do to be that skinny. They are on some kind of extreme diet to get that shape and it's not healthy at all. Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with body shaming for overweight and underweight people. Because there are people who are born that way too.

I don't know and it's stupid. I have been very skinny my whole life because I just have fast metabolism, I think that curves are beautiful though and always wanted to be a little bigger. I've come across people my whole life who tells me to "eat more" but the people who actually know me knows that I love to eat and snack lol. You can never know why someone has the body-type they have so you should never try to make anyone feel bad but it's typical bitter human beings to want to tear others down.

I think body shaming is never okay. Everyone is unique and every person's body has a unique shape and style. Its unfortunate that we attack what we think is unnatural or uncommon (doesn't fit in).
It goes both ways. There will always be people hating on all body types. Body positivity is supposed to be about loving bodies of all shapes but because being thin has been the ideal "beauty" steamed for so long that everyone thinks they have to hate on it to show that larger women are "accepted".

Why should women on the skinny side of healthy be shamed by women who can't even take care of themselves? Who are demanding the world to find them attractive instead of putting the work into it. I think both are a bit unhealthy.. to skinny can be as unhealthy as too fat... a healthy body fat percentage according to your height and weight is essential for longevity. So it's not what they say in essence, it the intention behind it. That's important!
Now, personally, my preference, if I had to be attracted to one, I'd probably go with the one that had a little more on her, just because I think girls that are too skinny are supper unattractive.. but that's just me

It has nothing to do with being "real" the problem is that the media doesn't promote a HEALTHY lifestyle. Being too fat or skinny is neither appealing nor healthy. Being confident is one thing about your body and being delusional is something else.

Angry fat girls (and guys) are the worst. They are loud, bitter, bullying, jealous and sexually frustrated.
That defines about all the fat girls in my high school. I’m not a size 0 but pretty thin compared to the fatties ( what me and my mom used to call them!) and I remember they would get mad every small thing e. g. that time I accidentally bumped a girl she was about to kill me
@brunettegirlxx i noticed fat people are either really cool or they are douche bags. Not much in between. It all depends on how they handle their insecurity.
