When did thongs become so popular amongst gym-going girls?

When I go to the gym now, in the locker room pretty much every girl is wearing a thong. When I first started hitting the gym 15 years ago some girls wore them but it wasn't as monotonous as it is now.

Pretty sure over the years. More girls have slowly become comfortable wearing thongs. Partly due to many guys liking the view of a girl in a thong. Because it tends to showcase the butt and hips more.

I mean I am not gonna lie and say I don’t like seeing a girl in a thong. But I enjoy seeing them in whatever they are most comfortable in underwear wise. I am not overly picky.

Because most leggings and yoga pants are practically see through and they don't want panty lines like the girl on the left 🤷‍♀️

Because workout clothes are ass tight and no one wants VPL.

This is understandable, because nowadays the leggings are so tight and thin that the underpants are visible underneath. I think that looks stupid. I only wear thongs or strings so that this doesn't happen to me.
