Short dress or long dress for a date?

Something in between those two styles would be best. The first dress is too clingy and shows too much skin. And the second dress is too long. Maybe something that comes at least to the lower half of thighs. Something closer to the style of a sundress would be better. These are some examples of dresses that are in the middle:
