I wore bell bottom jeans and I got called names for it and people think that I'm gay, why do people think that of me?

So I bought a pair of bell bottom jeans recently, I couldn't find ones made for men so I bought one that was made for women on amazon. The jeans look and fit amazing on me and I like them. I got called names when people saw me in them. People also thought I was gay too and asked me if I was gay. I'm not gay, I'm straight but I just like bell bottom jeans. I don't get why is it considered gay for a straight man to wear it, A singer who was popular in the 70s named Jackson Browne wore them and he is straight and married to a woman. Why do people think that I'm gay for wearing it?

The fact that they are women's jeans probably has something to do with it, more than the actual style of the jeans. It's hard to tell without seeing them, but I do know that women's jeans tend to be tighter. If you had been able to find bell bottoms for men, you probably wouldn't have been made fun of. These type of jeans are also called "flares" if you ever decide to look for another pair. Maybe typing that word into your search would help you to find some.
