Appearance - Tights help shape the leg, if they were cut well when being made and match the shape of the wearer.. The stretch helps smooth out all those little bumps and ripples, etc. and make the wearer look more sleek and sexy.
Multi Functional - They an act as an extra layer, sort of like "winter underwear". They can act as a shaper (see above). They can act as outerwear if the fabric is opaque. They can act as a "tease" for your guy.
Comfort- I like them because I don't have to switch out of these shorts and put on those pants when I do various jobs or just rest in the house. I'll just pull on my tights and that is the end of THAT- -I don't have to worry about "hiking up my pants" every few minutes. They stretch like a second skin- I don't have to worry about showing parts of my anatomy- they GO on, they STAY on. You don't have to worry about tripping on a floppy cuff. They add a little extra boost of warmth in the "changeover seasons" of spring and fall, without turning you into a sweatbox!
Practicality for massage- When doing massage, if someone is going to leave their clothes on, (in my opinion) they need to either wear very loose clothing, or wear very (ready now?) TIGHT clothing. Tights/bodysuits just work better IF I am doing deep and/or focused area work. Just like working right on the skin!

Winters are cold where I live so I wear tights a lot for warmth. I've noticed when I do that the male friends I know look at me and even talk to me differently. The shorter the skirt I have on the more I notice it. Yep, I think guys like them on girls alright, lol!

As a 50 year old man I must say the best invention during my lifetime, aside from women shaving everything below the waist, is the creation of the Tights / Leggings/ Leotards/ Capris.
