Is there really a general impression that pretty girls are not attractive?

I am 100% Indian, but a lot of people have a hard time believing I am. A lot of times, people will compliment my appearance/approach me, and then ask me where I’m from. They’re usually very taken aback when I mention that I’m from India.

Since we’re not really socialising physically, I’ll use a very recent virtual example: Just last night, I was on Omegle with a friend (just for laughs), and a group of girls came on and said I was beautiful, etc. We then spoke about where we were from and they were in utter shock that I was Indian. One of them whispered to another, “that’s the first pretty Indian I’ve seen.” I just think that’s really stupid? I should probably note that this is probably because I meet the Eurocentric idea of beauty, but I just find this really strange. I know they were trying to compliment me, but I found the second statement really insulting. This happens almost every time I interact with someone outside of India. In fact, I’ve received stranger remarks, “but you’re too fair skinned”, “you just CAN’T be Indian”. Like? How do people not know how HUGE India is? Not all Indians look the same.

I could never imagine talking like that about another ethnicity.
