Are my shorts too short for a 19 year old male?

About 3 inches above my knee, same length sitting and standing.

I haven't really worn shorts since I was about 15, but more recently I bought two pairs of shorts about 3 inches above the knee that hit around mid-thigh on me.

While I love how they look and feel on me, I've gotten a lot of negative comments about my shorts, asking me if I'm gay or bought the wrong size or whatever.

To me that doesn't really make sense. They do NOT look that short at all to me, and I believe they're called "shorts" for a reason.

Am I really expected to wear shorts below my knees?

They look pretty normal to me, I think but probably depends on your area. Longer shorts were in, but have been trending out. If you were a hipster you'd be wearing mid thigh, if you were really out of date skimming the knee standing, and the rest of is somewhere in between. Given you're sitting there I'd guess those are like a couple inches above knee which is about as dead normal as you could get right now where I live.

It depends. Are you wearing them to the gym? That seems fine. Are you wearing them to work? Did you wear them on a date? To a funeral? Like all clothes, they are “appropriate” for some situations and not for others. Some people care about such things passionately and have no trouble commenting on it, even to strangers. You can fall in line with societal expectations or you can learn to not care about what other people think. Those are your only two choices.

The outfit reminds something my dad would wear, only waistpack is missing. So yeah I guess that's why you get weird reactions. I don't think you should change them, but you'll always get comments if you wear something outside of the trend.

Well keep wearing what you wear then :D Who cares if it's old school and not the trend of today. I also wear comfortable before trendy and I don't care if someone comments on it. You can also try to change the shoes to more hipster style. Maybe it's the combination of the shoes and shorts that makes it dad look.
