  but i also shave/fade the sides and back but let the top grow so it covers down the sides and back

  the very bottom layer is shaved/faded but the top layer grows. it's kind of hard to explain. and i let the bangs or the very front grow so the top and front match in length while the back and side bottom layer are shaved/faded
