Red hair represents a recessive genetic trait caused by a series of mutations in the melanocortin receptor 1 (MC1R), a gene located on chromosome 16. Since it is a recessive mutation, it must be inherited from both parents in order for it to generate the Red hair.
Consequently, there are many more people with mutations of this type than those who actually have hair of this color. In Scotland about 13% of the population is red, although at least one of these mutations is present in 40% of people.
This type of hair can only be obtained through homogamous marriages between members of the same ethnic group.
Being red is often bad luck if you don't live in cold, low-light climates.
Several studies have shown that people with red hair are more sensitive to thermal pain and need higher doses of anesthetic than those with different pigmentation. The reason is that those with red hair also have a mutation in a hormone receptor that apparently recognizes at least two different hormones: the hormone that stimulates melanocytes (for pigmentation) and the one that stimulates endorphins (to decrease pain). They are also highly prone to developing skin cancers.
Both parents have that recessive gene, but is is not dominant. Both have the recessive gene, which being recessive is not dominant, the dominant one is that of black hair. In the case of the union of two subjects with the red hair gene, there is a 50% chance of having a child with red hair. I have a friend who has red hair like the mother, father and brothers have brown hair.
Global migration is higher than it ever was. Well, at least before the global pandemic it was, but it will return to and exceed those levels soon.
However, the countries with the most redheads are the ones receiving the immigrants. This wasn't the case during colonial times when the countries with redheads were colonizing the world and it wasn't socially accepted to mix with natives or other ethnicities such the black of African slaves. This actually increased the population of redheads. Redheads are also usually white people. There are redheads of other ethnicities but they are predominantly white. White skin is actually a recent mutation which occured around 12,000 years ago and was successful at helping absorb more vitamin D from the sun. A change from a hunter gatherer diet, to an agricultural diet was what favoured the white skin. This is simply because the hunter gatherer diet was more rich in vitamins.
When white people breed with darker skinned people, the offspring will be a few shades darker than the white parent. Since red hair seems to be more common among white people, mixing with other ethnicities and darkening skin, is causing a decline in redheads.
That’s not how genetics work. I’m pretty sure race mixing has nothing to do with it because you still pass on your phenotypes between your offspring 😅
Uh... I dont know who your biology teacher is but yes that is how genetics work. A phenotype is an expressed physical characteristic. The allele associated with a phenotype is either dominant or recessive. If you have a lot of the gene replication associated with a recessive phenotype, it will be more likely to be expressed. However, when the genome is mixed with one without as much of the genes for a particular phenotype, that phenotype will be less likely to be expressed and even more so if it is recessive. Red hair is recessive. Since you need two copies of a recessive gene in order for the associated phenotype to be expressed, mixed race offspring are less likely to have red hair.
Red hair is actually the least common hair color and since white people are 2 - 6% more likely to have red hair, when white people mix with other ethnicities and produce offspring, the chance of a baby being born with red hair is reduced.
In short, diluting the gene pool of the population most likely to produce offspring with red hair, with a population less likely to and with genes which are not recessive will most likely result in less offspring with red hair being produced.

That’s not what I said. I just said that it won’t go away, it will be less likely since it’s not a dominant gene but the phenotype will still exist. I don’t think it’s possible for them to just disappear unless they’re genetically a severe disadvantage than it would die out but other than that it would still remain

Your whole question was "why are redheads dying out?" and I answered it.
It would take a long time but red hair could become part of what they refer to as "junk DNA" if the population gets diluted enough that it would be extremely rare for two people who both carry the gene for red hair to mate. Don't forget, you only inherit about 50% of DNA from each parent and it is possible that one simply doesn't inherit the DNA for red hair at all. So it IS possible for redheads to go extinct.
On the other hand, it is possible that the same mutation could occur again.
They’re not dying out. They’re just not as common as they once were because it’s a recessive gene which is more common among certain races, and people no longer feel the need to only have kids with members of their own race. Therefore it is less likely that their children will have two of the gene. But the gene itself isn’t going anywhere. It’s expressed less, but if a child who is carrying the gene grows up to have a kid with another person who carries the gene, the resulting child could very easily be red headed. Just like always.
Well gingers have always been a minority it’s only 1-3% of them and come from northern / Western Europe ancestry. You can see them in the Eastern Europe too but very very rare. In my country they are a delicacy haha. Maybe go to Ireland?
In the US you have to go to an Irish community probably.. they are not dying out , they are is it hard to find. As always….

Apart from the recessive gene element that others have covered there's a more sinister reason. Redheads have historically been persecuted throughout the world as demons and witches. Having red hair was practically a death sentence in more religious times.
Id say were very uncommon. When i was in Scotland, Denmark and western Norway you would see more red heads than on average compared to here in Australia. Its a recessive gene so it can show up generations later. For example most in my family are blonde but myself and my sister both have red hair. I think for men we're looked down as being unattractive and not worthy of dating, especially here in Australia where most women prefer dark and dark eyes. I've only had a couple of dates in my life and rarely any women interested in me. While I've had friends who are over weight, a holes to their partners have women flock to them while most women seemed repulsed by lighter hair colours.
Anyway hopefully this red head can get a date😅 but i hope my children don't get the same hair colour it's a burden not a gift
Redheads have always been a minority. You need double recessives to get a redhead. So there has to be red in your DNA and your spouse's DNA somewhere and it has to crop up to get a red baby.
Maybe more redheads hooked up with redheads in the past. I've only known two or three in my lifetime. So what you're saying dosen't sound unusual.
When a person has red hair, they have a recessive gene. I don't think red hair is dying out, it's just not a common hair. In certain places, like on Ireland, Scotland it's more common, but it's still a recessive gene.

Red heads (men specifically, not women), are disgusting creeps, rapists, and pedophiles who don't know how to listen to a girl when she says "no" to sex. I think it's a good thing that red heads are no longer becoming a thing. The women are just bitches.
you can usually only get true red hair if two red heads marry each other, it's a sort of recessive mutation. So as more people with different phenotypes of hair are mixed together, it will slowly get more and more rare
I don't really know I mean i'm a natural redhead but thats because my entire moms side of my family their are redhead but they dyed their hair blonde or brown ir black because they didn't like that they were redheads.
The genes are recesive, so any other haircolour will overpower the redhair genes, and the only occasion when someone has red hair, is when you inherit the redhair genes from both of the parents.
Even if you have black hair you could still have one gene for redhair laying dormant.
But as long as you won't have genes for Redhair twice, you won't have red hair.
Ofcourse there is more to it than just this, haircolour is more complicated than that. But thats the general idea.
Gosh. I remember reading there's an actual science behind it. Something about red hair being a recessive gene. The gist of the article was that red hair is legitimately dying out.

My red head grandma was a lunatic predator who gassed up my grandpa 8 years younger than her and baby trapped him with my dad. I’m sure she’s an exception. I’m sure there are some red heads who are just fine out there.
Red hair is recessive and very rare by nature. If both parents carry the gene, just one in four of their children could be redhead or none at all. It's just not a natural trait that will persist.
Well red hair is recessive to start with. And so, given we all mix and match a lot it will grow increasingly rare. We're probably a few thousand years away from that though.
Naturally wise its due to genetics. most redheads have irish or scotland hertiage which is where their the red hair is from. Over time due to mixing of genes, the genes meant for red hair are dying out

Definitely not the majority. That's just a misconception. It's only 13 % in Scotland and only 10 % in Ireland. There's a lot of us just not as many as you'd think.

Well I never lived in “the ghetto” ? I lived in Massachusetts, it has a big Irish population and I knew quite a few Irish people that lived there.
I lived there for 10 years. I only attended a Catholic Church a few times, for a holiday event or something since my families not Catholic

I know some here in southern California, but there are lots of Asian people here, so they don't have red hair.
I know some red haired people in California, I see a lot of them, but there are more black haired Asians here more than anyone else.
They are not dying out, they just represent a very small percentage of the population and always have been, but Asians are reproducing more.

It was always rare. It’s a mutation linked with blonde hair. Originating in Scandinavia and then radiating outward from there throughout history. Even in Spain mideval era they thought red heads were witches and unnatural. It’s not a common hair color regardless. Blonde hair and red hair are related I guess a lot of them just end up looking like dirty blondes.

It could be the fact that the gene for red hair is recessive. Meaning both partners must have it for it to show in offspring.
