Is my coat too dressy/formal for everyday wear?

Question

I bought this trench coat for winter weather and I really like it. My mom thinks it's too formal for me to wear. She thinks it's something I should only wear for a special occasion. I however love the style and it keeps me warm when it's really cold out.

There's nothing formal about that jacket. It's just a parka with a belt. Even if it was "formal", as you put it, what is the issue? I wear 1950s/1940s overcoats every day throughout the winter despite them being considered "formal" to modernists. Shouldn't care about what others think. Just wear what you want.

It's a nice coat, looks like it's warm. Wear it whenever you want to. You know Moms are not always right, though they always have an opinion. She may have been suggesting you keep it for special occasions so that you don't get it dirty.

It doesn't look overly formal to me but even if it was, who cares? If you like it then why should you only wear it for special occasions? There's nothing wrong with wearing something that makes you happy any time or day.

Girl wear it. Trust me if it keeps you warm and you like it than what's stopping you? Just wear it your mom would not mind after seeing you wearing it for 3-4 days continuously.

No, it isn't even that formal. If it makes you feel confident, wear it. Just don't wear it like a security blanket. Also remember to wear real clothes underneath it, not sweats or pjs. Make sure you get it properly cleaned so it doesn't smell.

Wear it if it's your favorite, you really like.  It's pandemic too. If you barely have time or few times to go out and it keeps you warm when it's really cold out. <3 :)

I always dress up - And if I do something then it's a hack for everyone else so they should be doing so as well - it is dressy which is why it should be worn everyday

No it’s normal. It’s probably not very warm since it’s just wool though, have you looked into down parkas? They can be very cute!
