I've had tattoos done so I can tell you.
I'm a tattoo virgin so I don't know.

It really depends on where you get it. Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others.
The hands, feet, and neck supposedly hurt quite a bit (I don't have any there). Mine are on my arm and back, which honestly didn't hurt at all.
I would describe it almost like being pinched, or scratched. There's a little pain, at first, but then you just kind of zone out, and ignore it.
I usually bring a book, and read through the whole thing, and the tattooing process doesn't even distract me from what I'm reading.
Obviously, your own sensitivity to pain, and the location of your tattoo will make a difference, but overall, it's really not that bad. I'd rather get a tattoo, than go to the dentist, for example.
Mine are on my upper arms and they tell me that's an easier place to get them. The first part of the needles you actually get use to, and I was amazed at how fast they can tattoo. I had 2 5x4 inch bunnies put on my arms, and it maybe took an hour total.
The second part lasts maybe 2 weeks where your tattoo feels like a sunburn and aches like one. Eventually the outer parts scab and peel off and the fresh colored skin shows underneath and feels just like normal skin.
I got two relatively small ones, took less than an hour total to get them done. But that was enough for me.
It felt like what it is.. a needle piercing your skin constantly. Especially hurt for me when it was dragged to draw lines.
The one I got on my lower back was not that bad, it also helped I could lie down and not move the area I think. The other I had on the part of the forearm which faces my body. That was very painful and after getting that I felt sure it is the last one.
I once considered getting a very big one but would not be worth the hours of pain or the money for that matter :D
Really sore honestly. I’ve only ever had one tattoo though, and it’s on my ankle which I think is a pretty painful place to get it. It also comes down to your own pain tolerance, mine is pretty bad

It tends to vary a lot based on where you get it:

I got mine on the forearm which is generally considered one of the least painful areas. So I only felt the mildest sort of burning and scratching sensation when I got mine.
I've got 14 around my head.
Plus on my abdomen, forearms and calf.
It's all painful but you just have to go somewhere. Like when you get into a lake when it's below freezing outside.
The head hurt the most. It felt like someone was chiseling into my scalp with fire, my skull was vibrating.
The guy had to ask if it hurt at all. Oh, yeah, it hurts. I was reliving every fight I'd been in and a few that I wanted to be in for the duration to distract me from the pain.
It really varies from person to person and where you get the tattoo. But anybody that tells you that it doesn't hurt is lying. It's not excruciating but it does hurt. The more fleshy/fat/padded areas hurt less. Anything where there is very little meat or something right on the bone really hurts. But like I said, it's not excruciating.
Its a needle going in and out of your skin like a thousand times a second. It's uncomfortable and can hurt a lot depending on the area.
I had a homemade tattoo made on my arm and it lasted for a while it really didn't hurt but I feel it's better to get a real one
Its uncomfortable but can hurt depending on the tattoo and where it's done at
Friends have told me painful but they said were happy with out come
for me its cathartic-the whole process to get something beautiful outta all this pain
My sister and cousin have said it's extremely painful. My sister has several. My cousin has a lot and used to be a tattoo artist.
From what I've heard it hurts for a little bit but then it heals
I don't know or wish to know.
i have12 and they mostly hurt like hell
