My hair has thinned a lot. How can I thicken it?

My hair used to be super thick until I was in 10th grade, it started thinning when I began my junior year. Not sure if it’s because of stress, but I really want my old hair back

Wow, what timing! I actually went to the dermatologist about my hair yesterday.

I had super thick hair all my life - in fact, I met ONE GIRL who had thicker hair than me. One.

Anyway, I noticed at age 19 it felt... thinner? I didn't think much of it since it was so thick to begin with. I then noticed at age 20 and 21 it felt finer... but now, at age 30, it feels the same as it did when I was 21.

I learned from the derm that if it gets thinner from stress, it WILL grow back thick again once you're no longer under distress. Unfortunately, if it doesn't, you have "female pattern hair loss", which is what I suffer from. My hair went from being thick to being average in thickness. What a shock. It can come from your mom's or dad's side of the family. If your mom has fine hair, your hair might wind up getting as thin as hers. The only things that can be done are (a) taking Rogaine (which makes you hairy all over), (b) getting bloodwork done to rule out medical issues or (c) getting your plasma injected into your head, which doesn't normally work, anyway. Honestly, you probably won't go bald, and I'd just embrace your new hair if I were you. A lot of women don't have thick hair, and look great.

About a year ago, during the summer holidays, I went to bed at about 4-5 am every day for 2 months straight. Is it because of that? After the new academic year began, I started going to bed at about 2 am and woke up at 6:30 am-ish. I’ll pay a visit to the doc though.

I don't think that's the case. Then again, I'd go to the derm. It's not cheap, but you'll get an answer backed by science

You might be vitamin deficient. B12, Biotin & Omegas like cod liver oil & vit E will help your hair to grow thicker. It could be the shampoo you're using. Your diet. Go see a doctor.

How are your parents' hair?
If your mom is thinning, then you are likely to thin too.
Otherwise, yes, it just might be stress.

Consider having your parents take you to the doctor to have a blood test done.
The results of the blood test will rule-out (or not) if the problem is due to an underlying medical condition.

If your hair actually is thinning due to genetics, you may be able to combat it by taking "Rogaine for Women", but you are young and might not be able to take that though.

However, I have good news!
You ARE young! Medical advancements regarding hair loss are improving all the time. When I was 17, there was NOTHING. Now, there's Rogaine and they are learning why people's hair is thinning. So, medical science will likely solve this problem in your lifetime.

Like others said, less stress. Beyond that: have a water filter on your shower water. Eat better quality food. Yes, your hair quality is related to what you eat. That's why a lab can take your hair and analyze it and determine if you're on drugs or not. If you use a brush that isn't straight, stop using that. Get a brush with straight/mostly straight aligned bristles and be more gentle. Avoid tying your hair back tightly. No tying at all is best.

There's special shampoos & stuff but I'd think you're too young to need that.

I would say you should see a dermatologist they may get to the bottom of why your losing hair also they have one medication to give females that do help hair growth but males can't take it cause it would work against their hormones also they would do a complete line of blood work to see what's going on

I imagine like anything else you can research thinning hair online. There is probably a few different causes for this and a few different treatments. Just beware of snake oil cures.
