Do I need my parents permission to buy clothes?

If I have my own money I feel like I should be able to spend it on what I want without needing there permission or for them to tell me what I can or cannot buy. My parents won't let me buy crop tops or shirt like that. But If its my money and my body I should be able to make the choice of what I can buy and wear. Am I right or wrong here?

considering you likely still live in their household and they likely pay the bulk the bills on your behave you do have to listen to them to some degree.

now if you had your own job and paid rent and/or other bills that would be a different story. since it is legal for a 16yr old to get a part-time job in many parts of the country. provided they get permission from their parents/legal guardians to do so. though it'll likely be a minimum wage job working only a few hours a day.

it's possible that while you find their rules to be strict at times. they are likely trying to protect you from getting into trouble or being abused by others.

You're in the right. There's nothing wrong with crop tops. Your parents are just damaging you in the long run by being too restrictive, because when you eventually leave the house, you're going to go full-on rebellious. I've seen it a million times.

They are making a big mistake and maybe don't know it.

By preventing you from buying the clothes that you want with your own money, it is going to create rebellion, as it is now, and push you even more to the side of things that they don't approve of.

This has been the way things have been forever in families. Sorry, you are having to go through that right now.

As long as you live under their roof it's their rules so if they don't like you wearing crop tops etc. Your better off not buying stuff like that. It wouldn't hurt to talk with your parents and see if they are willing to meet you in the middle when it comes to what you wear.

It’s both! You are right, AND you are wrong. Look, you are 16 and living with them. So I understood that you want to wear things that feel cute to you. Your parents might just think they are too revealing. Have you talked to your mom about a compromise?

Yes you should be able to buy clothes if you have your own money but you can't just wear whatever you want. You're a minor and your parents are still in charge of you until you're 18.

You can buy whatever you want but they can also throw it out when they find out about it.

I think it is your money, but until you're 18 you're subject to their rules.

Don't get me wrong, I see your frustration but that's just how it is.

Maybe cause you live with them so their house so their rules on how you dress. Though you make your own money.

No but they have to approve on what you buy since your still a minor and live with them and their still responsible for you
